I have been reading up on different clutch levers because mine is all floppy and has too much play up and down. The MSR AOF seems to be a pretty popular suggestion but I just wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion. I also plan to get a block off plate for the parking brake and and remove that whole assembly.

I like my asv pro perch, quick adjustments on the fly and if it breaks it is replaced no questions asked. It folds around to the front and is adjustable with the pull and where the lever actually sits with an allen key. well worth the money in my opinion along with the brake lever that works great and has the same adjustability on it as the pro perch one. steve

Yeah the ASV lever does look nice, but x2 Im looking at a minimum of $150 just for clutch levers for mine and my wifes.

any honda one will work. I have two refurbs that were half the price of new ones. check ebay and see if they still have them around. I had to wait for a couple of weeks before there was a red one on the and waited quite some time for a red lever that was refurb to come on there. If they arent on ebay anymore then call them up and ask about the refurb ones for the hondas they should be able to hook you up cheaper than the new ones. steve

Their website just lists universals so I guess they all work.

Could I buy one that has the hot start piece already on it and just not use it?

I think the hot start is for the 450ex not the 400. I might be wrong I am new to this stuff but learning.

Cool thanks for the info, what would be nice is if I could use it for the reverse.

may be able to mod it to work if it pulls far enough. the thought has crossed my mind before to use it for that. again though, i dont have reverse so i didnt need to worry about it. I would think that if it will pull the hot start it should pull the cable for that. it may be a different end on the cable but that can be changed with some solder or weld possibly. it may even be possible to crimp the right end on it if you can find some place that makes cables and has ends for it. i would suggest looking at a multi purpose place like a chainsaw snowblower mover type place for that. i know a guy here made me a wire and such for my snowblower over the winter but it did not have any special ends on it so it was pretty easy to bend the rod with the correct tool to but two 90 degree elbows in it to get it in the carb lever and the lever on the top for the throttle. lol. steve

Well I was able to make a best offer of $45 for refurbs of 1 black one for my black 400ex and a red one for the wifes red 400ex. Just have to get a total for combined shipping and it should be $98 for 2 f3 clutch levers that got for $90+ shipping brand new. What condition was yours that was refurbed? They claim it can have scratches an dents and dings, just curious to know what I am in for.

Mine was just like it was brand new I couldnt tell the difference. lol glad to hear you got some. steve

yeah, once I get an idea I pretty much follow through with it, I didn't expect the offers to get accepted, especially automatically so once I got one I was pretty much obligated to buy a second :D now I gotta pick up some brake block off plates as well. For that how hard is it to remove the brake part on the caliper and put on the block off plate?

it is two bolts that hold the assembly for the pb on. no big deal to change that. you may however have to grind down the tab inside so that the covers fit on all the way. I didnt have to but some guys do depending on how much pad is left on there when you put it on. lol. steve

When you take off the OEM clutch lever don't forget to splice the wires together so you can still start in gear!

Yeah I read that already, I think I will actually find a way to connect them without cutting off the ends in the event that I ever sell the quad, probably just put a piece of metal between the 2 female connectors and tape it up real good.

Nah, just cut them, splice them, tape it up and forget it.

Even if you sell the quad, you wouldn't put the OEM one back on would you?

you can plug a small 5 amp fuse into it and tape it up nicely then if you ever want to sell it you can put the lever on and connect the other stuff back up again. I have had a fuse in mine for years. lol. steve

Thats a good point. Oh well, now I gotta wait for them to get here so I can show the wife the new one doesn't match the old brake lever so I'll need to order new brake levers too :D

Got the levers in the mail today. I am a little disappointed in the appearance, but the ebay listing did say that they could be scratched up and that they are. Oh well, still got them for half price.

are they scratched up? I am suprised usually they totally fix the outsides of them. steve

Yeah mine are all scratched up especially around the ball on the end. Its ok, I can't ask for too much, I did pay half price for them.

Did you get them right from asvinventions or did you get them elsewhere? I would bend them and send them back to asv if possible. if you got them right from them. steve

clemsonteg

The ebay user name was asvinventions so I assume that was them. Im not really concerned about it I could also sand it down and polish it up and it will look like the other ones I could have gotten for the same price and it would still have better features like the no break bend back and the adjustable reach.

honda400ex2003
05-01-2010, 03:40 PM
that is asv then. I cant believe you got a scratched one. it would probably polish it up a bit and have it good. but hey you have some sweet levers to use now. they are really nice! steve

yeah they are pretty sweet. I played with them out of the package, I really like the whole snap back feature and the adjustable reach. really looking forward to that one for the wife. I got my tusk parking brake block off plates too so if I can stop being sore from hiking 7 miles today in the mountains I might get out there and do a little swapping
