Bought a project for me and my son its a 400ex frame with an xl 250 dual sport engine in it. my sons 10 and i figure it will be a good step up before he goes to the `05 400ex i have waiting on him. the question is it runs somewhat right now ( still has a few issues and probable needs a topend) but the suspension is wayy too stiff. i would also like to lower it a bit just to make it a bit more stable. i was thinking maybe blaster shocks or something similar. i dont want to spend a bunch of money cause it will be stricty for play and trail riding.

I believe that the 300ex shocks would work to lower it down but they would be really soft on it with the longer arms on the 400 frame. It would be nice for a really light rider though lol. just an idea i am sure that people will be able to help you out. there are also lowering kits for them but i dont have any experience with them so i cant even start to suggest anything in that department. lol. steve

do not use a lowering kit! blaster shocks have to be ground down but do fit they are soft though even for me and i'm 125 pounds

will the blaster rear shocks work? what about warrior shocks they would be a bit heavier duty than the blaster or 300ex shocks. i would like to drop it about 2-3in.

Go with 300ex shocks they are about 2 to 3 inches shorter in the front. u could even go with the 300 rear shock to lower it in the rear so the quad sits right. just putting in my 2 cents.

kfx450r shocks is ur best option, or else yfz450 shocks. they will lower it by an inch and a bit

i have used both the kfx and yfz shocks on my 400ex they do lower it but are still to stiff for my son as he only weights about 95 lbs. plus with the xl250 engine the quad is quite abit litter than with the 400 engine. so i need a softer spring rate to make up that difference.

my vote is still for the 300 shocks. cheap and easy to put on for the time being. steve

tried the 300ex shocks wayy too soft what about these lowering kits for the front end that should technically soften up the front end abit but maybe not as much as the 300ex shocks right? the stock rear shock seems to be okay with the preload adjusted all the way down.

400ex shocks right now the 300ex shocks i tried were off a buddys quad. they lowered it about 4.5 in. and were so soft my son could almost bottom out the suspension by bouncing on the front end. the lowering kit im looking at lowers it 3.5 in. and should softne up the 400ex shock just by the change in leversge.

the lowering kit on my 400ex I bought from rocky mountain atv...they are great and ride quality improves dramaticlly....But you CANNOT jump with them. They work good off road but NOT for jumps...

I like mine. I dont jump with them tho.

honestly, i think if you want shorter shocks then banshee ones would be best
