i have a 03 400ex and just bought a 440 big bore kit and a stage 2 hotcam. i also have a fmf power core 4 silencer. what else will be crucial for me to have on the conversion. thanks

Well, the main thing with the 440s is that they get hot and you're going to want to keep that thing as cool as possible. Air scoops are a cheap way to get some extra airflow over the engine to help cool it off, you can also get an over sized oil tank and probably the best mod would be a SPAL fan install. If you could, all three would be ideal. The other common problem area of 440 builds are the engine studs. The stock ones just aren't meaty enough for high compression pistons and can lead to a blown top end. GTThunder makes HD studs that are much thicker and have more threads that are shown to be 70% stronger than stock studs.

How much comp. r u gona b running, is it realativly low like 10:1 or 11:1 or is it high like 12.5:1 or 13:1

If its anything over 11:1 GTT hd headstuds would just be some cheap insurance to make sure your not pulling treads

Also i forgot, The 440s run a little hot imo
So i would get so air scoops a bigger oil tank and even a secondary oil cooler and a spal fan

Im about to build a 440 also, im planning on adding an AUX oil cooler that cools the oil to the head, along with the SPAL fan... Another lil thing im going to do is wrap my header with header tape to help keep heat away from the motor. And Im going to run 110 race fuel since im running 12.5 - 1 compression......

If you really want to unlock the potential of your 440, you need head porting and oversized valves. It's not a must have, but it really opens it up.
