Well I decided to start looking for a 450 when my dirt bike sold. I wanted to find an 04, 05 with low hours and a stock motor. Well without much effort i found almost exactly what i wanted. It is setup with the bolt-ons i want already and the motor is stock with the stock pipe so i can upgrade from here.

the front bumper will be coming off and sold. it is new without a scratch on it so if anyone is interested let me know.

My plans as of right now is just a pipe and maybe HRC kit and then just ride it.

He had gone crazy with stickers so i was in the process of taking them off in the pics.

Thoughts and opinions are appreciated.

Also what to watch out for or any tips and tricks.

Thanks
Adam

Check your oil filter reg. If you see silver metal shaving in it dont ride it until you replace your Crank bearings with the updated Bearing kit.
Nice find

I have a 04 as well. I have the same slip on, Motoworks pipe. I installed the Powernow Venturi kit as well. This makes up for the header. Brother has a 05 with a full system and no venturi kit and they ran dead even. Cheap part that gained a couple horsepower.

My 05 motor is all stock with a sparks pipe and I just installed a cfm products aluminum air box that uses the 250r filter "I used a K and N" and WOW what a difference. It ran good with just the pipe and air box lid removed and re-jetted. Once I installed the air box, had to re-jet again. hard to believe an air box would make that big of a difference.

Its almost exactly what i was looking for.

its almost identical to my 400 and has all the bolt-ons i wanted with a completely stock low hour motor. I am pleased with it.

How is the power of your built 400ex compare to the mostly stock 450r? I'm looking to pick up a busted 400ex to build or a stock 450r and just do bolt-on's.

The 400 is faster right now. I just rode the 450 all weekend and realized the gearing is something to be worked on. 13/38 is to short and i didnt like stock 14/38 because of the long first gear, but unless i drop teeth in the rear the 14/38 will be best i think.

I did the exact same thing with gearing. With the 13 counter, it ran great in the tight, technical trails. But when things opened up a bit, it seemed it needs more on top end. I am going to switch back to 14/38 as well. I ride in Bull Gap area mainly, and its whooped out a lot. With the 13 gear, I was in the higher rpms, so I can't pop off of the whoops like I could with the 14 counter in third gear. Fourth gear seems too bog too much when you drop a tire in. Stock gearing seems to be the best compromise.

yeah thats exactly what i thought. I rode Little O in Baldwin on Friday and that is tight and the 13 felt perfect but then rode Lincoln hills which is wide and fast and i kept the 13 on and was 4th out of corners and screaming in 5th on the straights. For now 14/38 will have to do.

Once you open it up with the pipe and hrc kit the 14 tooth will do just fine.
