I just completed a top end rebuild. Here is a list of my new mods.
-86mm 11:1 wiseco piston
-stg 2 hotcam
-crf450 cam chain
-kibblewhite valve springs
-ground valves and cleaned them
-new valve guides and seals
-Adjusted valves
-lapped valves
-no air box lid w/ k&n filter and pre-filter
-choke off of carb
-carb jetted at 40 pilot and 160 main

HERES THE PROBLEM
When I start it up there is a continuous ticking noise that sounds like it is in the top end. There is no power loss and the ticking occurs from idle to full throttle it just increases in speed. It is not a horrible loud tick just noticeable. What could be my problem? Is this something to worry about?

All help appreciated!

why would the valves be ticking? Will they quit after break in? The quad has about an hour on rebuild.

check your valves again, check your cam chain tightness, and the decompressor on your cam. with an aftermarket cam, you should have taken the decomp. off

the hotcam cams are a bit noisy in my experience even when prpoerly adjusted try changing to a different oil that may help. rotella 15w-40 works good for me.

If a reputable place did it, I doubt your valves are out. It is the mere fact that the cam has a more aggressive lobe then a stock cam.. More aggres means more noise, as the H/C has a harder ramp rate, more lift over a stock one.. Break it in and beat on it.. Infact beat on it..

Thanks for the help. BTW I did the rebuild on my own but I adjusted them to the specs of the hotcam stg 2 which was .13mm intake and .15mm exhaust. The closest I had was a .127mm and a .152mm but I thought that was close enough what do you think?
