just wondering.. with the added cost of clamps and a more expensive bar, what is so much better? i'm curious as the actual grab portion is the same size and just the center is bigger..

they are a stronger and the larger diameter gives you more clamping force. I dont feel like running the numbers but I would say with the same wall thickness it would be somewhere between 18-20%. I doubt if anyone would ever break 7/8" bars without damaging larger ones to the point where you wouldn't have to replace them anyways.

I would rather bend some bars then a stem.

I would run the 7/8's

when i changed from tag 7/8 bars to renthal fat bars, my arm pump and vibration decreased insanely.

^^^^^what he said
and i run the pro taper contours....they arent as strong as the evo that will probably bend the stem, but whenever you just high side it, it is usually fine...ive bent 7/8 bars from just flat landing jumps.....Highly recomend them

1-1/8th bars are stronger but because of the larger tubing they can stay strong and allow flex. Put all your weight on most of the "big" bars and they will flex a little, put your weight on the smaller 7/8ths and they are so rigid it makes for a rougher ride. I cant find the exact words to use explaining it but eh w/e go with the bigger bars
