Honda 400ex hubs?

I have hear about people putting 400ex hubs on their Polaris 90s. What does this do? Extend the wheels out further? Is it the same as using spacers?

Yes, widens the rear wheels. Same as spacers, but stronger. Good, easy/affordible way to widen the quad is use 1" wheel spacers in front, and use 400ex or 450r rear hubs. Makes it much more stable.
