Do the air scoops actually work at all on the 400ex? If you have them, would you buy them again?

When I put my hand by the motor, I can feel a lot more air being pushed over the motor, and that's when I'm only going 5-10 mph.
I have a hard time believing that they aren't helping keeping the motor a little cooler, at least.

Very nice. I'll be getting some of those soon. By the looks of them, they should direct a lot more air to the motor, heck yea! :macho

I recently purchased a pair of PRM air scoops, and I can tell you, they make a big difference in the air flow across the engine's cooling fins. I really like these scoops, the design is similar to OMF's, but they only cost about $40 or so. I highly recommend them...

If they didnt work then why would they make them?
I've got a set of PRM's on order :macho

I got the OMF when they first came out, $35.00 off E-bay. After I put them on I had to re-jet because of the cooler engine, cooler air is more dense, so you need a richer mixture. Also when my buddy had his headwork done, the engine shop recommended that he get them. I personally only bought them for looks but I would get them again. They also give you more room to put your sponsor stickers on, now only if I had some.

Pull em off and see how much your fan runs. That will give you an indication of whether they are useful or not.

400EX's don't have any cooling fans.
I have the PRM air scoops on mine. They look great, but I doubt they aid in cooling much. Unless you have race-cut fenders. The front fenders probably do just as good a job as the scoops at directing air to the motor.

I know when i drove one with the tinner air scoops i could feel alot more air passing by. If you look at how they aim the outside air towards the engine more. Its like if you take a 20oz soda bottle, cut off the bottom and blow in the big section, all the air comes out the side in the cap. the soda bottle angles the air towards the inlet and it all comes out in more force towards the motor.. Make sense? its early in the morning so it may not.

I never heard of anyone rejetting because they put on scoops.
Yes you may need to rejet for cooler temps but not because you installed scoops. ;)

yea rejetting for scoops makes no sense, it's not cooling the air your taking into the engine, just the air that's goin past the engine. and yes they deffinetly do help a lot, they redirect a lot more air towards the engine. here's a pic of mine. me and a friend made them for our 400ex's.

I'm definetly not an expert on 400's but wouldnt the scoops scoop more air towards the engine thus towards the air intake tube? And if it did you'd have to rejet. just my 2 cents

It may have been more than just the scoops. I never did re-jet when I bought it, and it was rich then. I think that the scoops just put it over the top.

I like my tinners. I think the air intake tube sits above where the air scoops "scoop" the air and doubtfully will they add more air to your intake. If your quad was running rich when you got it....and air scoops gave your motor more air...then you would be running leaner than before....not richer.
I'd buy mine over again!
Just my 1.02

Your right. It was not running rich like i said, it was lean. I had to richen the mixture up. Thanks for pointing out my typo.

I have the OMF scoops,,, I think they catch more air than the tinners and they look better too,, but ya,, in the woods,,, Mine will ping sometimes on 93 octane,, Thats only when the motor is pretty hot,,, But if you hit the road ,,, they do push lots of air across the motor,,, I have been running straight 117 Octane now,, and that thing is very snappy,,, but Cannot afford to keep running that so,, will probably do a mixture...Get the scoops..

I dont' have air scoops yet... but tinners sounds like a good deal:)
You can buy "OMF" on EBAY but whoever has em wants twice as much as tinners and twice as much to mail them
It's also been mentioned that tinners is of better quality.

"is it worth it" is a realitive term. money means different things to different people. the product may work fairly well but costs an arm and a leg. see what im saying. i'd say do everything you can to try and cool done that 400ex considering they have over heating problems when heavy mods are done. and air scoops is a cheap alternative to other things. so yea to me they are worth it.

any body have a picture of the tinners,
how are they mounted on, if they are mounted on by the plastic,
they wont work for me, my 400 has been through some wipe outs, and some how the little plastic mounts are gone.
any ways some one post a pic. of the three or four kinds that are out there.
Here's a pic of tinners..they don't mount to the plastic..they mount to the frame and are very VERY sturdy...:D
PS..he doesn't ship them in the color that you see in the pic..:devil

the Tinners: what's the price on them, and do they come in different colors.
notice your key location, you by a kit for that,
and how many keys have you broke off.
I believe Tinners are around $40 or so...no kit for the key,,just drilled a hole there and relocated it since I don't have headlights no more and that's were the key mounts.... and I've never broken a key off..I try ta keep the rubber side down at all times..:D

Scoops. All the manufacturers make them differently, so pay attention to what you are buying. One thing I have to say is Extremely Ugly..wtf??? What kind of thing is that to say opposed to a nice chunk of brittle fiberglass?? Okay, pay attention to the angle on the scoops...will they direct more air? They all will, but some are going to do it better than others. For the little that they cost it is definitely going to help when you are moving. They are not the same as a new oil tank, but will definitely help. For the people who asked how much, mine are $38.00 + shipping. Just drop me a line, and give me your zip code. Thankyou to everyone who has thrown in a good word.

The SX Racing air scoops are angled out. they are kinda like the omf ones. i had omf before but my bruther bought me some sx racing ones to use and it is not brittle fiber flass it is stronger then the alluminum and also it doesnt brake even if when it got hit reallly hard. They flexed and then went back into its normal spot. You would have to see the Sx Racing ones before you say somethin like that.

Here is a MillerLite Quetion:
I'm aware that they direct airflow in the direction of the motor,
are they also shaped to direct air into the oil cooler.
