More power out of a 400ex without a loud exhaust?

Is this possible? I'm selling my 300ex for a 450r or a 400ex, still undecided. My dad hates my quad (because of the HMF) and said "If you get another quad, that exhaust better be quiet!". So I'm assuming that means I won't be able to use anything else other than stock. I initially planned on going with a 400ex then working on it a bit, but can I really do much without changing the exhaust? That's the only reason I considered the 450r, because the power that I'd get from modding a 400ex is already there, but still going to be quiet.

My quietest choice would be a powerbomb header and a Q4. The one i have heard on a raptor 250 was nothing compared to one with the stock core out even. it was a very nice sound and helped it out quite a bit. I may buy one this summer actually just to see how it is. I have it sitting in my cart on dennis right now waiting to be purchased lol. Ill see if it stays in there when i get my grips and other small things before summer. lol. steve

Is the Q4 fmf? Because if it is thats your best option.

you can get around 92 dbs with quiet cores in yoshi, pro circuit, and hmf i believe. But the Q4 is around 90 as far as i have heard which is very quiet. The stock one is 88dbs for reference. My t-4 is 95 and is one of the quiet ones along with a few others. Your best bet is to either get a Q4 or just get a quiet core with a different one when you buy it. steve

get a stock 450r muffler it will flow better then a 400ex muffler

the topic says more power out of a 400ex so i say if u decide to get a 400ex it will have alot more power than the 300ex that u have if the only mods that you have are the ones in your sig.but overall a 450r will be the better machine in every catagory except maybe tight trails.a 400ex will be between 7-10hp more than the 300ex and the 450r will be between 7-10hp more than the 400ex.

For the real tight trail making, I have a kodiak. Typically I'm not on real tight trails. For the most-part I drive my 300ex, with stock gearing, in 2nd gear or higher in most of my trails at my house. That would mean 1st gear would probably be ok with the 450r. Either will be a huge upgrade over a 300ex, but I kind of have the "go big or home" mentality right now haha.

I got a lexx slip on and find it has nice power and is rather quiet.

deffinately dont get a supertrapp ids2 the quietest i got it was 99DB, id go with the powerbomb header and Q4 or powercore4 neither is very loud
