Ok so im just kinda getting bored with normal production quads i want something a little different

i was thinking about a 250r frame with a crf450r motor

What do i need to know before starting something like this, seeing as im new to the hybrid section

Could i just find a nice rolling 250r chassie
and a blown up crf450 then rebuild that

I would have to change the motor mounts i already knew about that

What year crf motor would i need, could i use one from like 02 or 03
or does it have to be a newer one?

Just give me some ideas of what im getting into before i start it

Thanx guys any info will help alot

you would be better off using a 400ex frame. 250r frames create alot more work then the 400 frame. unless you bought an aftermarket 250r geometry frame for a crf motor then it wouldnt be hard just pricy.

well im kinda looking to make this a build on a budget

Why would the 250r frame be more work?

lower frame rails making it harder to fit the crf in. depending on the year of 250r you would use it would be harder to align the chain. 250r frames are known for cracking. and if you are trying to build one on a budjet buying a blown crf for 500-800ish then your going to turn around and dump 1200 plus into it to get it moving agian and thats just parts. 400ex parts are more readily available.

ya i no what your saying

If i found a blown crf for 500 i could turn around and have i nice running crf for around 1000 total

i would like to get a rolling 400ex frame that already upgraded suspension and mayb some wider a-arms and a wider axle

you dont know what you will have inot that motor till you rear it down. you dont know what shape the cyclinder or head will be in. if you had to do the basics crank bearings piston, cyclinder hone, cam chain, and valves you would have well over a grand tied up in it. unless you know where to get discount parts we dont know about.

ya i no i did the same with my 426ex project

I bought i blown up and estimated to have right around 1000-1200 in it when it was all said and done

Well thats just about right im at around 1100 right now and need a couple other little odd and end parts for her to be moving (new battery, selionoid, ball joint, and could use another starter)

Well im just trying to get an idea because i see alot of nice hybrid quads on here and would be really interested in making one

if you do end up doing a conversion take your time. i was rushed for time and didnt have things fit up quite as nicely as i had hoped; however next summer im hoping to build an aftermarket framed one with alot of custom components if i have the time.

also ya i did plan on taking my time

If i take my time mayb i could score some deals on parts and get them a little cheaper and if i rush its not gona be as nice as i want it to be

Any pics of your conversion and what was it converted from?

yz400f bored 30 thou over with race port and a bunch of stuff to a 400ex chassis. have some pics somewhere. i had it converted. and ended up picking up a 450r before i had the time to tare it down for the mx build and parted it out.

o cool ya i would like to see pics

The whole thing that got me wanting to build a hybrid was that i saw on a local classified adds list that was really nice

it was a 250r geometry frame with a yz426f motor sleeved to a 440
