View Full Version : xr400 bottom end, do they fit?

I know the motors are extremely close but do they bolt right up in a 400ex frame? If not, how much fab work, anyone tried it yet?

Im 95% sure it will work, the only difference is the electric start.

I have always wanted to do the swap, never found a cheap xr400 motor....lol.

lol, i mainly want one so I can use a kicker on it a little easier than on a 400ex engine. I also am kinda wanting to see what a 460 stroker is made of and that motor would be good for my application so I dont have to tear into my recently built engine

it is not a direct fit in the frame. you will need to either do some cutting and welding or get out a BFH!

JCS003 is correct, it is not a direct bot in. The rear engine mount that the swing arm bolt runs through is positioned differently. If you use that it tilts the motor more throwing every other bracket off. That is why I chose to buy a used, blown xr400 motor and transfer all the kick start components over to my 400. Hope this helps.

Hey, thats a good link.

I can see how swaping the internals would be the best bet.

No hammering the frame...lol.

lol. Ill just get another 400ex bottom end and do the swap. I hear all this talk about a 460 stroker, well I want to see what one is made of :devil:
