Hey guys, before I start let me say that the site is great and I have found a bunch of useful information so far. I recently purchased my 99 400ex and love it so far. My only complaint about it was that the kid before me used wheel spacers on the front end and they made for an absolutely horrible ride. I havent been on a quad since my last (04 yfz450) and I am thinking of making my EX wider while keeping the stock shocks. What would be a good way to go about this? and a good place to finder wider a-arms and axle at a decent price? thanks

I got my fullflight arms and works shocks off of ebay for $500 shipped which was a good buy IMO. They both work great but im about go through and redo them (new ball joints, bushings, rework shocks, etc) Id check here, craigslist, and ebay. You should find them

wow that definitely sounds like a deal. I do mostly trail and field riding so i dont need anything ridiculously wide. Maybe 2 inches front and back

also 250r arms which can be found for good prices also will fit but you have to trim down the bushings a little I believe. 250r, 400ex, and 450r shocks fit 400ex's so thats another plus on finding stuff cheap. I saw a guy selling a new looking LSR axle on here or another site i cant remember for like $200 which is a good price for that axle

thats awesome i never thought about that with the 250r. I basically wanna make it similar to the width of a yfz so im sure I will find something

I love hondas 400exs. I bought one back in 02 brand new and loved them ever since. Now, I loved my yfz, but talk about a high maintenance machine! Yes, I know maintenance is involved with any quad and it needs to be done if u want to keep it in good shape. but im not the type of person that enjoys adjusting valves every 40 hours or spending hundreds to replace parts. Honda 400exs r just reliable machines and they are perfect for trails and tight woods riding which is all my area has to offer. Id take a 400ex over a yfz any day

I like my 400ex but my first quad was an 86 trx250r i built from the frame up myself. Dumped around $5500 into it and still didnt have plastics on it lol but man it was a blast to ride, felt like i was on a go kart it handled so well. The 400ex isnt too far behind it but i could just toss that light quad around anywhere and make it go where I wanted it too. I like the yfz's but my buddy has had problems and had a good bit of maintenance with his but others with other 450's said its not bad at all on maintenance, must be a difference between the quads. Glad to hear your back on a quad. Ill keep an eye out for you on some parts and ill pm you or post up in here with some links if I run across anything.

Yeah, the yfz handled as good as you said your 250r did, as long as it was a high speed. As long as you were taking trails and bumps or whatever at speed then they handled exceptionally well. the midrange hit on them are extremely intense too, but its a yamaha. They build fast machines that arent reliable. Id trade that speed in for a ton of reliability anyday with my 400ex. thanks for your help man

I have some offset front wheels that I'd like to trade / sell. (they stick out wider, basically if you flipped your stock wheels around and bolted the valve stem side down to the hub - Except the valve steps are on the outside)

But sorta like wheel spacers, might cause a bad ride.

I have +2 a-arms already and don't need these offset wider front rims... if anyone wants them, pm me an offer.

are those 3/2 offset wheels? I know the 4/1's would suck in the front end
