I have rode for both Duncan Racing & LRD.

In my experience, my LRD engines for my 400EX's & 250R are the best!

The LRD engines kick some major a**! The 2-stroke & 4-stroke are really good in low, mid & top end ranges. The 4-stroke 440 & 460 kits are awesome and are faster than most of the 2-strokes out there.

My teammate, Matt Smiley, who also rode on the Duncan Racing team for years, switched to LRD last year too. He has mentioned on the GNCC podium many times that the LRD engine is the fastest all around engine he's ever ridden.

TC done all mine! If there is a 400EX motor out there that is any stronger, I would be afraid to ride it!! Ive got a +5 swingarm and cant keep the front end down in ANY gear!! Its amazing!!!

I will have TC parts, but have a local guy put it together. Really I don't think you will go wrong with any of the builders said up above.

I've got a 440, that has been damn near every other CC you could think of. as a 483 it made well over 60 the rear wheel, and has a 440 it only makes a few less than that. Its got more titanium and aluminum inside the engine than any other that I have ever heard of. Revs just as fast as my Banshee does, and hooks up and pulls solid in every gear from idle to 10,200. On alcohol, as a 483, I was told it should be in the 70hp range, and if it were to have the valves and such it has now, it would be beyond that.

chef, I think yours is by far probably the fastest quad on the site. Displacement isn't always everything.

I dont know Chef! Better check the your food in the kitchen cause somethin is burnin:D Well all I can say is, Im willing to pay anybody $500 that can beat my bike(any 400EX without "NOS") in the 300ft drag strip, thats how confident I am with my motor! The fact is, even if there is a 400EX motor out there is stronger than mine there is NO WAY you would be able to control it on a dirt or sand drag and I will beat you anyway!! I have put more and more time on the 505 the past few days and now that im starting to give it a little gas and see what it will really do,,,,well no words can describe!! Mine is almost impossible to control and keep the front end down, even with the +5! I had a friend of mine that usually drag races with us(he has a 400EX that just has pipe and jet kit) and i thought he was going to fall off my bike! Very hard to control but I have got the hang of it now! Matter of fact i am ready to race my friend with the 350R powervalve on alky,,,I ride his bike all the time and I can honestly say I think my bike has a chance to run with him,,,i would have never dreamed that!!! He will be soooo mad if I beat him!!!
Anyway, Im going to High Lifter next week to have it dynoed, i just wanted to have a good break in time before I put it on the dyno,,,so be looking for my results post at the beginning of next week!!!

Mine is a FDO 463, and I am real happy with it. Mike is great to work with and talk to. He really knows his stuff. You tell him what you want to do with it and he can build it to match.
There are lots of great engine builders out there, TC, Sparks, FDO, LRD, just to name a few. Call a few of them up and talk with them. Any of them will be happy to help you out. ;)

I had my motor work done by Hetrick Racing, Seneca PA. Just like Hetrick425ex, my motor work was done by Rich Hetrick. He did an awesome job on my motor and it carried me to 5 wins out of 7 races last year. I got 3 or 4 holeshots with it against Raptors, C'dales, Z400's, and other EX's. It was a very reliable motor. You can see what work I had done on it in my sig. The price was great and would definately recommend Hetricks. They are great people to deal with. Give them a call. Tell them Ray Milliard sent ya.

I don't know if this is a 4 stroke only post, but here's what's done to my R:
LRD 330 (76mm bore) nikasil cyl with coated Wiseco piston. Dune porting by Arlan. ESR 4mm stroker (making stroke 76mm) long rod crank. Makes it a 350. Pro Design coolhead (24cc gas, 22cc alky), ESR airbox eliminator kit, Keihin 38mm PWK Air Stryker, Boyesen Rad valve (also ported by arlan), LRD big bore pipe. So far the only bikes that outrun me with regularity are the stretched alky banshees. Of course this means it isn't fast enough ;)
Currently it's at Ripp's PowerSports getting ported much more aggressively (lotsa metal comming off), carb taper bored bigger, custom CPI in-frame drag pipe, V-force reed cage, and the tranny is getting a lot of new parts (16 year old gears made for 30hp don't like having this much power thrown to them). It should be pretty fast. My motor guy laughed when I said i'm only running a +4" swingarm. I don't want to go longer if I don't have to so I can still ride trails. I'll keep it like this for a little while and will probably switch to alky if I get a backup bike.
