smoking problem

my 400 is smoking a little bit. its black smoke so its burning oil. can valves being out of adjustment cause this or do i just need to get new rings?

Get a new piston and rings and while you're in there adjust the valves.

black smoke is fuel .bluewhite is oil and pure white would be water
