They are jetted very lean from the factory to meet government restrictions. The HRC kit will help this alot.

they are lean from the factory but it is normal for the head pipe to get cherry red a few inches out from the motor.

let your dealer fix the problem so there won't be any warranty issues unless you don't care about the warranty! you paid for the warranty when you bought the quad so use it to your advantage.

most dealers are yoyos, mention jetting and they dont have any clue what your talking about. They just have some 16yr old kid bolt them together after they take them out the crate and thats about all they know about them.:ermm:

Its normal for it to glow a few inches out of the bend. All the 450s do. Mine with the HRC kit still glows a little. It it is glowing past the bend into the heat shield then you have problems.

yea i know they would glow a bit off the head put mines at the bottom of the bend, i know they throw some oil and stabil on the show room quads to keep from fuel goin bad i havent broke it in all the way so i wonder if the chemicals and oil making it run a bit hot in the first tank of gas

my 07 is stock and glows to about the same point it sounds like.

no issues with the bike to date, bought it new and has never even had a single valve out of spec. i just keep the air filter clean and well oiled.

not sure if you have a real problem or not, but they all do get cherry red

every trx 450r i have owned never did turn cherry red at the head or anywhere else they were jetted correct etc. my friend has a crf 450r bike that was run with the head pipe getting red hot it melted the front of the piston and the piston twisted forward in the cylinder and trashed the rod, cylinder, cylinder head, valves it even left pieces in the carb. the motor was a complete loss. No matter if your Honda shop has a good mechanic or not it is called a paper trail if they say it is ok then fine and if something happens later you will have a better chance at getting it repaired. my father-in-law let the same issue slide with a foreman, ruined his top end and spent months fighting the Honda dealer and Honda and it ended up costing him $1,200.00 in parts plus the time without the atv to ride.

the header should definitely glow red, when i had my yfz it would glow red after a minute or two of idling

if it glows it should only be visible at night. during the day means your engine runs way to hot. my 400ex never did tht and it was air cooled. a liquid cooled bike shouldnt run that hot
