Hey guys Im looking to get my gf a stock 450ER as an upgrade to her 300ex... right now I have found an 06 barely used that looks like whats I am going to get... Is there any problems with the electric starts on these things I have heard mixed things? If so is it hard to kick over the kick start model so much that she couldnt kick it? Thanks guys!

The electric start is fairly reliable as long as long as you don't give it any gas while cranking. You can add the kickstart components to the e-start, and have the best of both worlds. The kickstarts are very easy to kick.

Well here are my options... a 05 fairly unused for $2300 with nerfs... or an 06 ER maybe 3 hours on it just been sitting on a stand for 2 years for $3k... Id rather get the cheaper one but I am worried about her having issues starting it especially hot... Any of you guys have GFs that ride them? Mine is about 5'1 112 pounds if thats any comparison!

The 05 is going to have a hotstart. In my opinion, it's actually easier to start when it's hot as long as you use the hotstart. I would go for the 05 as well.

Why would you guys reccommend the 05?

They are a little more reliable, and they don't have the rip-your-arms-off throttle response that the 06+ have because of the FCR carb. The power delivery is more mellow and smooth...better suited for a lady.

my e-start worked perfect until i built my motor, then it was junk! keep the battery charged and dont give it gas when you start it and its fine, i switched mine to full kick though and its pretty easy to kick over, i can almost do it sitting down with a 13.5:1 piston

yea, after i get my bike warmed upm i can start it while setting on it. your girl wont have any problems starting it, i used to make my ex-girlfriend kickstart mine when we rode cause i wouldn't feel like standing up, lol. plus she liked doing it.

Steel valves instead of Titanium and the oil cooler. Less maintenance on the '05 in my opinion. Good price also. As for starting when hot, my starts easy enough, just remember, no throttle cold or hot.
