Yep, and end tables...a few book matched pieces for bigger tables etc
I ordered my big shop bandsaw so in a week or so I can start processing the smaller stuff into usable dimensional lumber, turning blanks, bowl blanks etc.
It takes some time to dry the wood but for now im content with gather, cutting and milling, plenty of time to build down the road.
I have also been scouring craigslist and have scored. Bought some Osage (Bois'de Arc) for $25. I bet there is $300 worth of wood there:p most of this will be turned into game calling blanks.
Tomorrow i'm helping fell some trees in exchange for firewood and my choice of anything special we find. Then hopefully in the next few weeks I will be going to get some big Cedars that this winters storm took down and or killed. My brother has a big Walnut tree I have to go drop and get and somewhere inbetween all that I have to get busy cutting Apple trees.
I will at some point sell alot of this to woodworkers/turners but for now it is all about getting the stock built up.

Hey Pappy, looking good there. In about two or so weeks I should have the $$ for the mill.
How much a bf are you looking to get when you sell the slabs?
Pappy

No clue:p
With the slabs, from what i've been watching, it comes down more of what the wood has to offer versus straight BF pricing. Most of these are just standard grain with slight figure so they really wont be much over standard BF price for oak or cherry. I kind of wanted to wet my feet on something that wasnt worth a mint and screw it up LOL. Some slabs fetch several thousand dollars but they are the cream of the crop.
I did manage to wrestle out a really nice chunk of Red Oak. Its about 10 x 8 x 18 and has some serious things happening in it. It was from the bell segment just above the root-ball. I have another section that is either going to be very wicked or total junk but wont know till I get inside of it:p

How well does it work ripping with a chainsaw. The times I tried to do it(freehand), it didn't cut very well. Do you use some sort of special chain?
Pappy

Regular chain does ok, freehand i would suspect you will have the bar walk to much, but with the mill attached it does good. The ripping chain makes a smoother cut
We went to help Codys God Father today. It was his B-day and we knew he was cutting firewood so went to give him a hand. Then we went picking through this godforsaken rattlesnakle infested mess. Cutting stumps and crotch wood aint no fun but we did get some good pieces

It was easy cutting until i knicked a rock with my big saw:mad:

The last cut was on a large honey locust (very friggon hard) and with a chain tore to hell it was no fun. These will be quatered and cut on the bandsaw

Very nice! Are you using a resaw jig? What kind of blade are you using on the band saw, an timber wold?
Pappy

Just the blade that came iwth it. Its slow but works. From what I hear, the Timber Wolf is what everyone is recommending.
No real jig. For spindle work and bowl blanks its not imparative to be critical, just need to keep the blade from twisting etc. Id like a nice resaw sled but dont have the tools to build a nice one honestly.
I have about 150 blanks cut up as of this evening...but this heat wave is killing me. i was expecting a few ore weeks of normal temps so I cut blanks and sealed them immediatley but then we gt 90 degree temps. Hard to dry it slow when its that hot that fast:p

I heard nothin but great reviews on the timber wolfs.
You don't need much to make a jig. Take a look at this one.
