Oil Change Question

im looking to buy a trx450r but how often do you need to change the oil ?
i ride almost everyday.

Depends on what kind of riding. When i just ride (play ride, but practice for racing) i go about 6 or 8 hours. When i am strictly racing, I go about 4 hours which is around 2 races. The more you change your oil, the better off you will be. I use Rotella T 15-40 so its cheap and easy to get so its kinda like cleaning my air filter for me. Its just something you HAVE to do alot.

I change my engine oil after every ride, transmission every other ride, and replace filter every other ride.. These motors don't hold much, so you need to do it often.

I change mine every other day of riding.

I change both sides every time. Most of the time the tranny side is dirtier then the engine side. Plus the tranny side lubes more bearings and gears in the bottom end and has no filter.

The engine side normally comes out still golden.

I use the Rotella synthetic 5-40 in the engine side (Blue bottle)
And Rotella 15-40 in the tranny side (White bottle)

I get my filters off ebay in bulk for less then $3 each. HiFlo brand.
Normally buy 50 at a time and split them with friends.

well one of my friend say's you only have to change it every 5 tanks.
can you do that because i dont want to change the damn oil after every ride that would be quite annoying lol..

Well, I think if your changing it after every ride your just ensuring you have the cleanest oil possible which is a good thing. Your question seems to be can it go longer? Sure. I change mine after every 3 rides (sometimes 4) but usually 3. Both sides and filter. I make it simple. I use the Maxima non-synthetic in both sides. I had engine work done last year and my engine builder said everything looked great.
So....after every ride. Awesome.
After 3 or 4, still should be just fine.
Longer than that...probably not so good.
But on a side note: it should only take you 20 mins or so to do it. Its easy to get to on the 450r.

Is the Rotella the most common brand everyone uses? and ive seen 2 different weights? Can i find the Rotella anywhere or somewhere specific? also what is the amount that goes in since theres no dipstick? has a stage 2 hotcam 12.8:1

you can put cheap oil in if you want cause you should change way before oil is contaminated I personally like KLOTZ 10-40 in both sides never any problems tore down this winter and it was stiil nice no wear but any oil would do that really if changed that offten Klotz is expensive but I trust it and its never failed me for a few bucks more its worth the piece off mind. my quad is my one true love and I treat it well and its treated me well so do you really want to be cheap? not worth it to me! but its your motor

I change my oil after each race, oil filter after every other race, and the tranny gets changed every two races.
