so i was told from a local atv shop that if you go with just an hmf slip muffler and later on down the road want the hmf pipe they wont fit together ?? they said if you want the pipe you need to buy them together , wasnt sure if this was true or not , anybody had any problems like this ???

atv shop is right when it comes to HMF. they use a different end diameter on their head pipes, so you need the other midpipe to upgrade.

You could always get the HMF slip-on, and then when it comes time to upgrade get a FMF header

i havent been able to find any white bros. pipes other than ones that are already on a 400
I have them on both of mine
an r4 on the 426
and an e-series on the 400
Your best guess to find one would be to try and find one locally

What's been done to the bike? You aren't going to gain much from a header unless you've done some decent motor work.

its got the 440 kit and stage 3 hot cam . 450r carb . thats about all the motor work i got done to her . but about that header , what im trying to figure out is a after market header going to do anything for me ? and how much more than stock ? id really just like to get the top of the line muffler if an aftermarket header isnt going to do anything. but if it is a big gain then i guess just get the whole package? thanks for the help

Won't work. The FMF header is as big at the end as the HMF header. ANY slip on exhaust will not work with an after market header, atleast that I've tried. However, it's a realitively easy fix. All you need to do is take the slip on to an exhaust shop and they can weld on a bigger end on the pipe. It fits beautifully, and they only charged us $5 when we did it with the Raptor (Powerbomb header, HMF slipon). But I don't know if there might be a negative impact on performance because of this.

^ wrong. FMF headers are direct replacements for the stock one.. meaning all the ends are the same diameter and are located in the same place.

Pipeless,
have you actually compared an FMF Powerbomb and the stock header side by side? Or are you saying this based on what you've heard?

I haven't seen a 400ex Powerbomb before, but I can tell you that on a Raptor a Powerbomb is much bigger than the stock header. The HMF slip on fit like a glove on the stock header, however on the Powerbomb it would not; the header was too large.

But a picture is worth a thousand words, so here is 3k.

1. Powerbomb header

2. HMF slip on

3. Joint that we had to have welded

i have the same setup. 440 kit and stage 3 hotcam. k an n filter with no airbox lid. i had the hmf slip on and it worked ok. i sold that and got the hmf competition full pipe. what a difference. well worth the extra 250 for the full pipe. just spend it now instead of wishing u would have later.
