I saw this in a mag once talking about how the top pros had picked their racing number, so I thought it might be neat to see why some kids picked their numbers, like my son Joshua picked 47 he says the 4 is for Ricky Carmicheal and the 7 is for James Stewart, I thought that was kinda cool, now to get him that fast, lol

Christian started out racing #44 but when his mentor and very good friend Justin Brown was killed racing he asked Justin father if it would be okay for him to run Justin's #7 plate in memory of Justin. That was in August of 2005 Christian was at his 1st National race at Lorettas when it happened. Christian had just turned 8 and he has been riding the #7 plate ever since

Jam started out last season with #24. He pretty much picked it out of the blue. He said he wanted to change #'s this season and he said he wasn't sure what number he wanted to get. I told him his # should be something that means something to him. Someone he idolizes (sp) or looks up to, a certain day or date, etc... He was caught between #'s 7 and 8. 7 was for James Stewart (who lives only a few miles from us) and 8 was for his age and Jordan Gibson... He went with the 8 which is a good #. Cam Covil and Jordan have represented that # here very well. Hopefully Jam will carry on the tradition.

My 70 rider chose 95 its a reverse of the 59 his mom and I rode when we raced. My 50 I bought came with 88 on it and was my youngest sons first race bike so to him everything is 88.

We where looking at the pros #'s when deciding
what to run. Brandon picked his number 55 from
being big Doug gust fans.

when JJ was 4 he started mx at Atco. I just picked # 18 when signing him up cause his birthday is november 18th, the season was over within a couple of races and the next year we started XC racing , when i went to sign him up all the 50 riders # had to start with 9 , so he became #918. now we do mX full time.

#18 was my number in high school football. It was Jordans number when he started playing football so he stuck with it when he started racing. Brady started racing a couple years later and wanted the next number before his brother so we ended up with 17 and 18.

When Ryan started racing he picked #24 because he was a Jeff Gordon fan. When we started racing the nationals that # was already taken so we changed it to 224 because his bday is Feb 24th.

When Will started racing he was only 3yrs old so when I signed him up for the first time we just put down #3 on the entry form and it has kinda stuck.

Yep, me too. #34 was my High School football number. Logan wanted it after watching my old films. 8mm! lol. No- VHS. He wears it for everything including for football. He says it is his lucky number.
I'm not afraid to admit - I'm living through him a little. hehe.

Seth is #822. He got that from his 2 Supercross favorites, #8 - Grant Langston and #22 Chad Reed. Sounds logical to me. Was just #22 when he was 4, but that year there were 4 #22's at one race so he added Grants #8 and it stuck.

8mm? what the hell is that? I didnt know you were that old Rocky! They had VHS in the early, early 80's! LOL

Ben chose 99 because that was my number in school too! This is an interesting thread, good topic. I always wondered how people chose their numbers.

Zach got his # when he ran his first race ,which was a hairscamble in mansfeild Oh,and we were signing up and the man asked him his # and he blerted out 7! later i asked him why and he told me "because i am 7 yrs old silly"! Later we added the X because there was another kid running the locals against him and we always had to add a letter,so it just stuck.

Buddy showed up to his first WORCS race in early 2005. He was a 5 year old kid. We knew he would be 6 in the near future, so we decided on putting 6's on his bike. Well when we went to register we found out that there was already a 6, so they gave us some 1's to put in front of it. So 6 seasons later the 16 lives on!!

My son wanted 2(ryan villopoto SP?) but i told him 2 was probably a common number so i stuck a 1 in front and thats what it is.

We took Cole to his first race and his buddy was 554 and the closet number to 554 was 550, that wasnt taking so Cole took 550. And has had it every since!!

This IS a neat thread. Love the kids responses. T chose 917 for his bday. Sept 17. We wondered if running three numbers would be ok since most are two but It's all good....

Ryan Harness choice makes me want to sneek and change ours..Go 24(JG,48JJ,88lilE).

Michaels # is 838. He was 4 when he started racing. We're BIG Earnhardt fans I asked him what he wanted his # to be. Later that night he said 838. Why I asked. The first 8 is for Ralph Earnhardt, the 3 is for Dale, and the 8 is for Jr. Pretty cool I thought.:D

Our good Friend Andy Santerre, 1998 Rookie of the year for what is now the nationwide series raced #44 for years winning 4 back to back titles for what was the Nascar busch North Series (now K&N East Series) and has since had several succesfull years training drivers for the Nascar Ranks and now compition Director for Revolution Racing.

Drew raced as 44 here in Maine and then had to become 44x for NEATV and it has stuck.

Our Snowmobile Race Team (Team Maine Racing) happened to get assigned 22 and now we run 2 teams so naturally 44 became out 2nd Team.

Our son Kyler races using the #17. My birthday was on the 17th, my wife's birthday is on the 17th, we where married on the 17th, my race number was #17 when I used to race, and most importantly Kyler was adopted on National Adoption Day a few years ago which fell on the 17th. Needless to say the only number he wants to be is #17. I think if someone told him to change his number and he could not be #17 he stated he would not want to race and just pack up and go home.

This is a great thread to see how kids think and why they picked a certain number.

Tyler wanted to have the same # as me when I raced but when we first signed him up for AMA & District 6 ( which we didn't need) they assigned him # 70t, my old # was 70. In Tyler's first race ever he used the # plate from my 250r from 1988!

Kohl's #33 was my number in basketball back in high school, our favorite retired basketball player Larry Bird, and was also my daughters number in softball. ;)

Hunter was born on 12-20-2000 hence the first 3 #s. Which is #122. Then we got HWF racing because of his full name. Hunter Wellington Freeman, He gets stoked about it we we bring it up.
