I'm not sure how a tensioner could "slap" the chain if it is working properly. It should always be tight against the chain. Is your chain too lose and the clicking sound your hearing may be the chain actually slipping on the sprocket.

Ours started to make a similar noise, thought the same. Turns out, it is contacting the frame. I am going to check on the frame saver.

Could be gears as well, BUT if it is clicking on acceleration only then I'd bet your chain is too loose. When you accelerate the rear sags and makes the chain loosen. I'd guess its worse with an adult (heavier) on it. I tighten my chain with the whole quad off its wheels, the chain snug with me keeping the tentioner off the chain. Tighten up the carrier bolts, release the tentioner, set it on the ground. Should be right.

Gears are good!!!! have tried to adjust it both ways and when the quad sits the chain seems to be way too tight?

was hearing the same thing on our bike this week. The Outer bearing on the counter shaft was bad.

I can actually see the tensioner bouncing off the chain so I no it's that...

I think it could have been loose...I adjusted the chain without it to where I am comfortable running it and then put the tensioner back on and tightened it and no clicking or slapping...go figure
