if i have 22 inch tires, will switching to 18s greatly decrease my speed?

in short, yes. two inches in tire diameter= about 1 tooth less on your front sprocket. So if you want to compensate you could get a 2 tooth bigger front sprocket.

But on the 300 its geared high from factory. i know when we put our 20's on our 300, we didnt switch the front sprocket. it lost some top speed yes, but it has better acceleration.

With 20's you'll be fine with stock gearing. Although it does make 1st gear virtually useless :p . no problem.
