View Full Version : Mystery part in engine?

I'm in the middle of a total rebuild, and I have sections of the quads laid out on cardboard in the garage floor. This makes it easier to keep up with.

Anyways, I found this part by the engine and swingarm section. It smells like oil so I'm thinking engine. Does anyone know what it is off the top of their head?

Thanks in advance

Well the engine I was working on had a Stage 1 Hotcam in it. But it might be possible that the previous owner put the part back in?

This part is about an inch long...

But still, I appreciate the imput. I haven't taken the anything besides the jug off, so I'm sure it's nothing I can't handle.

Looks like a dowel from the cylinder of the motor?

I think it is one of the two dowels that goes on both sides of the cam that keep the bearings in place

its the dowel that aligns the cam bearing in the head. ill find the schematic.

3400ben, i guess we were thinkin the same thing at the same time.
i cant seem to copy the schematic from servicehonda, but if you look up the camshaft assembly its number 31, and then look up cylinder head and look at the picture you see the hole right below number 11, a washer or something it just aligns the cam bearings.

Alright that makes sense. Should there be a mate to it somewhere?

haha my bad. Just to satisfy your curiousity that is a zero. Part of 4794M0 which is the part number to a 12.5:1 Wiseco 89mm piston that is written on my forearms. Had my hands totally full earlier and got desparate, while talking to my builder today, so I wrote the number with a sharpie using my mouth. Creative right?

Well, that presents a problem. I'll have to go looking for the other.

i have not read all replies but that is the cam bearing stay pin you have one on each end of your cam to hold the cam bearings in place.

That's basically what we've decided.

I can't find the other one. Maybe it's in the head... which is in Michigan at the moment :huh

if your luck is like mine it probably fell down the timing chain void and is sitting in the crank case nice and cozy
