Timing! NEED HELP

I need a good explanation on how to time my 400ex. I have read the manual and other forums and still cant grasp it. If you can help me out on what has to be done that would be great. THANKS

first set your motor to tdc, then line up the lines on the cam sprocket with the top of the head while the lobes are pointing down and when its all back together it should be on tdc still with the line lined up and the lobes down.
