Those coated pistons are a joke.. they wear off real quick.. it's a gimmick.

And on 2-strokes, I have seen a bunch of Namuras crack the piston skirts.

Stick with the tried and true Wiseco or JE

not sure if I am right, but I feel like Namura is what honda uses in the R stock? im not positive though.

yeah ill prob go with Wiseco.. but i thought id check its for a yz250.

Coated pistons are not a joke. I work in a manufacturing plant that makes pistons for Ford, GM, Nissan, And Harley. Most of these pistons have the coating on them. After running tests of over 100,000 miles the coating show very little signs of wear.

theres some good info! thanks. i really do want to try the coated pistons.. im going to have the cylinder replated.. so im sure if i do get this piston it will make the coating last longer.

The cars must use something different, and aren't being pushed hard 24/7 like a quad.

My dad put some WSM's in his banshee once, (same coating crap) and we had to tear down the top end after break in (for other reasons, nothing wrong with top end) and 75% of the coating was worn off.. JUST FROM BREAK IN.

I've got a namura in my ex, dont regret it one bit. I have had no problems at all after a year of use, trail riding+ 4 harescrambles and numerous visits to the mx track.

I have nothing bad to say about them at all

In these tests the cars are ran 24/7 on a dyno at 70mph untill they reach 100,000. The oil is never changed, just keep the fuel flowing.
I am sure that some companies probably do have an inferior coating. But just because one companies was bad doesnt mean that its a gimmick.

thats a WSM piston, not a Namura.... im getting one for my R some time soon for my CR/trx motor im building...

I beg to differ, my motor thats factory from Honda has moly coated skirts and was built to rev out to 8500RPM + around a track. Even with that kind of abuse they still last.

My friend built up his 400ex engine to a 440 with a namura piston and that thing ran like a top for a whole season including practices ( his only race bike) without failing.. and man that thing had low end power!

Let me know . Our Grizzly needs a top end job done ( she's smoking pretty badly now) and I was thinking of going with a Namura piston.

Coated pistons have been around since the 70's in the car world and are known to have positive affects. They even coat the valve heads sometimes. Check into "Power Secrets" by Smokey Yunick, deff will open your eyes to what you guys think is up and coming technology that has been around for a long time.

Ive had a Namura piston in my 440 for the last 2 years.

Still running strong.. so strong in fact that I need a new bumper and we have one less oak tree on the property...

All i've ever used when replacing pistons is Namura. I"ve probably been through 10 of them. Thats what my builder uses. They have always performed great. I just recently gone to a Wossner. Namura are great pistons. Don't take advice from people who have not used the product.

Im running a namura 11:1 in my ex. My cousin has rebuilt around 6 with Namura pistons. Never had any problems.

Most people that have had problems with them usually are caused by something else, bad jetting, installed wrong, etc. The hardest thing about installing a namura if you havent done it before is knowing which way it points and which way the rings go. The instruction that come with the piston doesnt give clear directions.

Sadly though I currently dont remember which direction they go. Just be sure you find out when you install. Maybe someone on here will post that remembers.
