Is it possible to mate a 88 swingarm to an 86 chassis? Even if a little cutting is involved? If you have done this let me know. Thanks

you will have to weld a rear motor mount onto the frame and then the 88 swingarm will bolt right on.

ok so i just need to find a rear motor mount for an 88-89?

What if you cut the s-arm perfectly so that you used the same bearings as the 86 and it slid right in? Would that work too? It seems to be the better idea, as nothing is weakend by welding. And you have the 86 frame for measurement.

If I cut it right in the middle, its basically a 86 s-arm?? They were cut, just at the factory......

I wouldn't cut an 88-89 swingarm. They are a different casting, different material (alum. vs. steel) and different design.
When I converted my 86 over to an 89 swingarm, I took the motor mount bracket that goes in the middle of the 86 swingarm, cut two of the tabs off, and welded them to the factory gussets off the back of the main crosstube (one your footpegs mount to), and there ya go. This is the style some aftermarket frames use (I think Arens does this) and it's way easier than doing the crossmember like the factory 88-89 frames have. Hopefully this pic isn't too big to attach. I have a set of better up close pics on my other computer. I can get them to you this weekend if you need them. Oops, guess it is too big. Just email me at Oregon350r@aol.com and I'll email it to you.
