Sorry if this may be a stupid question to some of you, but this was just a thought and didn't know if it would work or not.

So here it is.
As farming season approaches i had a thought the other day to take off my front bumper on my 400ex, build a hitch that bolts to the front of the frame to hook to the back of equipment to move between farms. The moves would be less than two miles when doing this, but when your by yourself it would be nice if something like this would work.
So would this be doing harm to my quad while it's in neutral? Obviously the speeds would be at or less than 20 mph while doing this.

Thanks for your opinions.

You'd have to lock the front wheels somehow so it would go straight.I would just hook up a small trailer to the farm equipment it would be a whole lot easier that way.

but then would have to put a hitch on the back of the 400 to take the trailer back to move the next piece.

Make the hitch low enough it lifts the front wheels off the ground. Its going to bounce around a fair amount when your towing though, you may beat your bike up pretty good. Id try it and see how it goes.

i had just figured that if i was going straight that the tires would follow halfway straight.

no since there is no one holding onto the bars it will jump around and you could do serious damage to your quad

You could put straps on the handle bars to the rear bumper to hold them straight.

Best bet is to lift the front off the ground a bit. Wont harm it towing it like that so long as its not in gear.

Eliminated the problem of steering or locking the bars.

Isn't that how a tow bar basically works though? Uses the tow in of the front tires to keep the car straight

i have done thousands of times with a praire 400 4x4 and a trx300 2wd, build a hitch/towbar and pull away, it doesn't hurt anything behind a tractor going 23 mph. the front wheels follow fine and it doesn't hurt the gear box nor does it "bounce around".
