I am 6'0 and 180 pounds, I am wanting to buy either a honda trx 400ex or trx 700xX. So far i have mostly rode dirtbikes. I am having a tough time to choose between a trx 400ev or trx 700xx. Which is better for jumping and doing tricks? Do both have reverse drive?I the trx 700xx to heavy for me, and mostlywhich one would be more funner for me and my son?? Could u guys give me tips on which one to buy?
Thanks, Andy

I have never ridden a 700xx but I recently bought a 400ex after having countless dirtbikes and a 450r. It is by far my favorite bike it is just fast and powerful enough for me. I am 5'10 205. I will strongly recommend a 400ex to anyone.

I ride trails and mx tracks

i personally have never ridden a 700xx, but do have a 400ex that i love! bought it cheap not even a year ago and wouldn't think about owning anything different.
The thing about the 700 that i don't think i would like would be the full independant suspension. Just something about it doesn't seem for me. but thats my opinion. Take it for what you paid for it.

get a 400ex. those 700s look ugly, and I hear they dont handle all that well..

400ex has plenty of power for ya, I'm the same size and it pushes my fat *** great.

I never rode a 700 but I did ride a raptor, CR250, and worked banshee. I honestly find that the 400 has more than enough power, good size (meaning I can sit comfortably on it), doesnt weigh that much (I think its 400lbs??) and has nice power.

Other bikes have more power, yea if your really into speed you could go for them and all. However my EX has nothing but a slip on AFAIK and it has tons of power for me to ride on trails. Mine doesnt have reverse but it doesnt bother me either, hit the front brakes and hammer the throttle and you can turn around in place lol.

I have a 400ex and my buddy has a 700xx. They are two different animals... the if your looking for jumping and tricks then you should get a 400, if you do trail riding then the 700 is better. They both handle awesome but the 400 is much lighter and more nimble. The 700xx is of course much faster but is almost double the weight of the 400. As long as your on a honda you got a winner...

400's are nice as I have one and love it. I am 6-3 250 and needed a lil more power so I bought a 450 r. I dont race, i just ride trails and sand dunes. I love the 450 as there is not a Dune face I cant climb now. The extra tourqe is nice specially for climbing hills. Its all about preference. I have rode a 700 and they are heavy as hell.

Just my .02

I have never rode or even seen a 700 in person..lol

But a 400ex has an enormous amount of interchangeable and after market parts, You can use parts from 450r, 250r, xr400 multiple Honda three and four wheelers from all years have parts that fit a 400ex.

This just makes it easier to fix tune and upgrade, as far as a new 700x Ive never researched it but im sure parts are expensive and harder to come by, but I dont know....

if you want fast reliable and reverse get a 05 or newer 400ex but if you want faster reliable without reverse the 04 or older 400ex is the way o go ive rode a 700xx they are too much like a 700 craptor big, bulky, and dont handle very well up side they are hella fast

Imo the 700 looks awesome and compact in person for it's motor size. Never rode a 700xx but I love my ex, just wish it had a bit more power at times.

Ive got a buddy with a 700xx. Ive rode it before.

In a 300yd race, when my 400ex was stock, he beat me by about 1 length.

The 400 handles a ton better.

The 700 has a much smoother ride (IRS), but with that IRS I dont like how it feels when cornering. I feel like it wants to roll. Plus you cant kick the rearend out as easy and play with it.

I trail ride. If I was going to take it easy and ride all day, Id want the 700. It is a lot smoother on trails. But If want to have fun, then I would want the 400. It is more fun and handles better.

The 400 is a lot easier to work on too.

hope this helps some.

well i actually own both and both are extremely awesome bikes. they both are reliable fast and powerful. the 700 is a completely different beast hella fast and extremely smooth on the trails with alot more ground clearence if u mostly ride trails xx all the way. if u wanna do "tricks" what have u the 400 is obviously lighter and more nimble. xx 505lbs wet not sure on the ex but i do know the xx is not twice as heavy as someone on here stated. the xx does have a front end push issue that can easily be almost eliminated with a tire upgrade and completely eliminated with tires and shocks. so take this info as it is, my opinion based on my experiances and nothin more. that being said either way u go ur buyin a honda and will b pleased with ur desicion however my xx has a lot more mud on it than the ex. ;) enjoy and RIDE RED
