the 05 450r is a beastly machine and i love mine but the motors are expensive to buy ...i think over a grand for a stock one....but if thats the only thing you need i would say go for it...they are a great upgrade compared to any 400cc machine

if i were you i would do it but be prepared to spend some molla

if your to build a motor doint go stock make sure you put a cam mod no sense in taking the motor down twice lots of hp

guys i took your advice i traded got 500 boot and got an engine the only down side is the engine case is busted so that will have to be replaced, but other than that i've got most of the quad here, but a stock 450 has an alright amount of power but what can i do to it to make it run stronger but still be reliable?

Do a cam, valves, piston (12.5:1 or lower doesn't need race gas), exhaust, filter, headwork. That should help ya out a bunch.

for the 04 05 450r it's 10.5:1

and i think the 06 and up is 12:1....but i'm not positive on that one

will it still be as reliable with that extra compression, and will standard bore do alright?

as long as you dont get to crazy with the compression would be fine..and as far as the bb well thats up to you but remember if you want more power the old adage is theres no replacement for displacement :D

yea i feel ya on that ill probably run a standard bore, i was workin on it today all i need now is my plastic and find the parts for my motor ill upload som picks as soon as i figure out how lol, but i was just gonna go up to like where the 06s compression is with a hot cam what do you guys recomend with a standard bore?

the general rule of thumb is anything after 12.5:1 requires at least a mix of race fuel and reg....now that is depending on elevation and atmosphere along with other mods...but if you stick with a 12:1 youll be able to run 93

either way im going kickstart, im just tryin to decide the cheapest way to go i found a used set of 06 casings locally for 350 but a new set of 05 casings are 760 but i have all the guts to the 05 too so im not sure which route to take, ive never torn a motor down past the jug if i went with 06 casings what all would i have to buy to put it together?
