Replacing the counter sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain on my '05. Always wanted a higher top end speed, but liked the low end power riding through the woods. Wondering if I went to a 2 tooth larger countersprocket, how much bottom end would I lose considering first gear is a little tall to begin with.

I do have a full LRD pro 4 exhaust system running an ESR lid that has an outerwear covering over it (basically running without a lid). Also, running a DynoJet kit.

Anyone ever gear it up? Are you happy with it? Please provide feedback.

Thanks.

you would probably have a tough time pulling out if your ever on any type of slope...you will also have to work your clutch a lot more making it wear faster.

i have a friend that went up 1 and it's alright but i would never go up 2...but i never tried it so i guess just try it out and see if you like it

I can't imagine going up one tooth on the 04/05 models, much less 2 teeth. They are geared too high to begin with from the factory. You wouldn't have any bottom end power gearing it any higher.

I actually had to go down 1 tooth on my 04 just so I wasnt bogging so bad on the starts (even in 1st) I think you may want to adjust the rear sprocket instead I think (and please correct me if I'm wrong) 1 tooth on the front = 3 in the back?

yepp..jkiserracing is right. but it's reversed too. so going 1 up in the front is the same as going down 3 in the back

Roughly, yes.

Thanks for the input. Kind of thought the same thing with the tall first gear, but just wondered if anybody else had tried it. Bought a 14 tooth counter and 38 tooth rear (stock) this afternoon during my lunch hour with an 'X' ring high tensile chain. It's even gold to boot. Install this Saturday and start riding since sled season is over.

I'll just keep riding the Banshee on the high speed fire roads I guess up at the cabin.

with 20 inch tires, 14/38 is the gearing to have IMO. If you're riding some WFO roads, maybe 15/36, but that's as much as I would go, period. As steep as first gear is, it's impractical to make one a tope speed quad, unless that's ALL you do with it.

Didn't buy it for that reason. Mainly woods riding with some track time. Thanks for the input.
