18mm should work but the tool out of the kit works the best. I would suggest getting one, it makes it pretty easy to get it out then. some 18mm sockets wont fit without grinding them to go down in the hole. they have to be thin wall sockets to get in there. steve

if you cant get one on ebay go to your dealer. they should have one that you can get even if it is just the tool with a bar to turn it. the rest really isnt needed if you have your own tools you carry. steve

you can also find it here. the whole kit is $18 but the dealer should have just a socket wrench and bag around possibly. steve

I like how the tire gauge is almost the same price as the whole kit. And be careful on ebay. I bought from a member on there for a tool kit and the tool box and I am still waiting to hear when they are gonna ship it after a week. Still haven't even heard from them after 2 emails a day for the past week. Tomorrow Im calling.

GEARWRENCH brand from Advanced Auto parts, 18mm deep well 3/8 socket with a small extension works great also, fits alot better than the factory honda tool, and for around 4 bucks you cant beat it( no grinding required) I bought the tool kit and maybe used it twice, waste of money, just my .02 cents though

Yep, the stock tool was nice to use but mine actually rounded out on me. The flat parts of the hex became all flared out. I simply went down to the local hardware store and bought a cheap 18mm deep well socket that fits perfect. It's an "Allen" brand, no grinding needed. Has become my go-to specialty tool for the plug on the 400.
I throw a small extension on it, and torque the plug to 13 ft/lbs (stock spec). Real easy, and don't have to remove the plastics.
I had an old sears 18mm chrome socket laying around. Took the grinder and all of 5 mins and I had the tool.
Then again I have all the tools to do stuff so it was just more convenient for me to grind one down.
