I'm looking for a camcorder for the family. Looking to spend between 250-400. I"m sure there are a ton of options. Mostly will be used for videoing our children, and probably some race stuff. I've found a few sony's that fit the bill. But I don't know much about any of them. Just looking for some info or experience anyone might have.

These are the current four that I'm looking at. I"ve only looked here because again, I don't really know anything about these.

Look at the sony camera model dsc-H20. its in that range. it take 1080 pics and 720p hd videos. i picked it over the camcorders there for the price and the video quality was way better then a camcorder. its 10.1 mega pixels. it dosent have the 2000x time zooml like the camcorders put it does zoom well.

We just purchased this (getting ready for our first child).

Its a bit more than what you wanted to spend, but worth it IMO.

So far, I'm very impressed with the HD quality! Make sure you have a decent PC to process the HD video (dual/quad processor and solid video card). The software that came with it is pretty poor - I'm going to purchase another program for editing.
