ct midrange

Looking for some help. I bought a used CT midrange national pipe and i have a new CT Silencer. The outlet on the pipe is the same outside diameter as the silencer. Is this the way they are supposed to be? I have never seen an exhaust on a r where the silencer did not slip over the exhaust pipe.
