I am building a 406ex with a wiseco 11:1 compression with a stg 2 hotcam. It looks difficult to change the cam chain and I am wondering if it is necessary to change the stock cam chain to a crf450 cam chain. If I do not do it what will I lose? Whats the reason for going to an HD cam chain.

Another thing is valves. I was going to buy kibblewhite valve springs because Im going high compression. Should I replace the valves and the valve springs or do I not need to replace either. Is it dumb to just do the valve springs? THANKS

if they are worn out yes change them but with what your building it isnt necessary .

The cam chain is cheap insurance.

If your valves are in good shape, no need to replace them. Stock 400ex valves are pretty stout pieces.

cam chains do wear out over time. At some point or another it will stretch and start slapping the inside of the case. Mine had already started when I tore mine down to rebuild it. That particular chain is heavier duty and only $28. It took an extra 20 minutes for me to install when I had it tore apart. Its just an easy time to do it.

I went with an 02 cam chain, but i think it was 02-08 works or 99-08 something like that.
