With the snow finally gone and a break in the rain, I fired up the saw and started collecting next years wood for Game Calls, Benches & Table Tops etc....not to mention next seasons firewood:p
I lucked out bigtime as this cherry tree has alot of Spalt in it making it pretty valuable. If I was to cut it into bowl blanks and turning blanks along with some flat board, I bet there is $1500 or so sitting there:D It has some impressive grain and the spalt will make it awesome for woodworking.
My poor Ranger is in need fo a new belt i'm afraid....it sure gets a workout!

whoa! that freaks me out.
me and my dad starting collecting wood for next year. We practically ran out this year (switch to a wood stove and now we burn a dozen plus cords a winter).
All spring and summer we get phone calls to come pick up wood and we go and then we come home and split it. I prefer the wood heat better than oil heat anyway.

Is there a purpose for the coloring on th ends? Is it some kind of sealer?

It is a product that allows the wood to dry with out drying to fast so it doesnt crack and split

Cords or ricks? Over a dozen cords would be insane for one year. :eek2:

All we heat with is wood and we use 4 to 5 cords a year.

I just estimated real quick with that dozen. Now that i think about it, its probably about 5 or 6. We have a big house and we can barely sit in the room the stove is in...lol

Ive been on the prowl to score me a few Bois' de arc trees to mill up. I like working with it (Osage, apple hedge) for calls.
In the next week or two, I will have a bunch of walnut here along with a ton of maple....just waiting for the weather to get squared away
Also still kicking around the idea on a portable mill
