View Full Version : how do you guys cure thump cramp?
just curious how you guys do it.. i ride quite a bit and have started racing hour and a half long cross country races.. usually bu 20 minutes into the race i can barely push the throttle anymore.. is there anything you can do to specifically help this out?
i've adjusted the thumb throttle a million times to try to find a more comfortable position but i just cant find a good spot
Use an ice cream scoop with the thumb lever to exercise those specific muscles.

i do long desert races, Stretch, stretch and more streching. I make sure I get tons of Potassium the days before hand. Keeping hydrated is key.
I like that idea Scro...

Practice using your knees to squeeze the tank and release the death grip on the handle bars;)
Also depending on the quad you can cut the return spring down alittle to make it easier to push

Just buy one of these and go to town:p Don't go cheap either. Buy a nice metal one. The cheap ones made of plastic won't last long. I found a mini-scooper at Wal-mart, and it fits perfectly in my console.

I don't know how you feel about twist throttles, but you could get a twist/thumb throttle so you can go back and forth. I have a buddy that did this, but he doesn't race.

On my 07 XC (with the FCR carb) I did the throttle return spring mod, which is removing the return spring from the carb, and if I remember correctly I cut out 3/4 of a turn in the spring so it had less initial tension on it and it worked out great.
I havent tried it on the 05 yet, but I may look into it and If I can make it work, Ill take pics.

A tennis ball worked for me. On the drive back and forth to work and when I finally get some tv time.

No spring in the housing, well lubed cable, modded carb spring, TRX90 lever.
That mixed with the ice cream scooper trick and I next to never get any arm pump.
