Can you post a close up pic of the material? From that pic it just looks like binder or base ..but need a close up to tell forsure.

looks like someone tried an exposed aggregate with the wrong stone in the concrete mix. Hard to really tell from that photo or it is deteriorated concrete.

looks like washed rock concrete

you mix the cement with prefered aggregate, then pour as concrete....
smooth and then spray retarder on it..... after aprox. 30-40 min. you spray off with hose
this washes top level of sand/portland off revealing the rock as texture for looks and traction

I have seen alot of different things used (even marbles)

usually river rock or washed pea gravel

I also thought it may have been base or binder 312, but if ya take a look they've got expansion joints cut in it which leads me to believe it's exposed aggregate concreate. Not 100% on it without seeing it in person.

and its definitely a form of exposed aggregate concrete. Its some strong stuff.

It's definitly gonna be more expensive than your regular drive. Mainly because of the extra materials and labor involved, but it sholdn't be a drastic jump in price.

Me and my Dad use'd to do alot of concrete a couple years back. And one thing I cant stress enough is you get what ya pay for! It's like he always told them I'm expensive and the Joe down the street's cheaper, but I'm gonna be more expensive when I have to rip his work out and fix what he's messed up.

Looks like stone dust to me.... They call it #10's or fines in VA..........
