im thinking about racing my 400ex in some hare scrambles but i want it faster before i do. does anybody have ideas on how to add power without changing the bore size? im running a lexx mxc pipe and k&n filter. this is probably a dumb question but could i use an fmf header on my lexx pipe? thanks again

a cam would help. suspension is always helpful in making the bike faster.

I am running the FMF Powerbomb with a White Bros E series on my 400. FMF headers are designed to use the stock exhaust mounting location. So you should be able to run any slip-on without any issues.

You could always go for a stage 1 cam. That should give you a bit more power throughout the mid-range.

As for the carb, you could remove the choke from your 400 carb or swap over to an FCR from a 450.

Here is the link for the choke removal. (http://www.exriders.com/techarticles/choke.html)

I would also highly suggest a timing key. I think that would be the best way to spend your money.

Your best combo for the engine would be all things listed, it should quite noticeable and a decent bit quicker.

As far as suspension, you could get a used set of after-market 400ex shocks on ebay for under $200 or you could spend that much on shocks from a 450 then pay to get them re-valved for a 400.

As someone from Indiana, I was wondering what hare scrambles you were planning to run in?

i would get a stage 2 cam
u said u didnt want to change the bore size but idk if u would wanta run a high comp piston if so go with a je 11:1 or je 12:1 even a wesico would do the trick
but a cam would help a good bit for now

im going to go ahead and rejet the carb to a 155 main and a 42 pilot. no more fmf jets, standard now. i also ordered a big gun rev box so hopefully that gets me where i want

Get a EHS racing air box lid, adjustable dynatek rev box, drop a tooth in the front, rejet, fmf header. and you will haul some ***. :)

I would check into getting your money back for the Big Gun Rev box.

Unless you are running a fully built engine capable of running past the stock rev limit, you will get no benefit out of it besides the over-rev and most likely you will be floating the valves and that is not good.

I know of three people that have purchased them for their ex's only to find that the only thing it truly affected was that they were much harder to start in cold weather.

All three of these people had put up their rev boxes on ebay since they didn't do much of anything.
