It seemed like they came out of nowhere. One day we got a call from U.S. Highland and some guys from Oklahoma announced they had an American-made ATV with some very impressive performance numbers. Within a few weeks, we had one to test.
U.S. Highland didn’t spring into being overnight. The story begins almost 20 years ago with a Swedish company called Folan. In the years after Husqvarna motorcycles was purchased by Italians and moved out of Sweden, a handful of former engineers started on a new project. The result was a V-motor that was light and made crazy horsepower. The history after that gets so complicated that we couldn’t begin follow it. Cannondale, ATK and a new company called Highland were all involved. But the bottom line is that now the tooling for the V-twin motor as well as a single-cylinder version is in Oklahoma where they are preparing to produce a line of ATVs and motorcycles. The single-cylinder motor will be available in a variety of configurations, depending on what the customer wants. It can be a 450 with mild output or a 70-horsepower 507. It is a six-speed with EFI and a very complicated electronic brain that keeps track of every rpm that the motor turns from the first time it’s started. It even has a G-meter that remembers how hard it landed from each jump

This is not atk, atk has resorted to china for their new quads this is a different company.

This is a completely different company than ATK. The frames they are using are left overs from Cannondale when they went bankrupt. Atk bought a bunch of left over parts from the Cannondale factory in PA, now someone else has bought a bunch of cannondale's left over products and are trying to put the design back into production with hopefully a more reliable motor.

I wonder who's making their 250R kits ?

I hope it's soon.

I noticed that in the dirt wheels article they say it will have a ohlins rear shock and elka fronts, but when you go to the US Highland website it says Elka front and elka rear.

I just heard from US Highland that these quads will be in production at the beginning of summer. I also got told that they are locating US made parts and this quad is the really deal. They are also making more chassis components like the frame, swingarm and a-arms so they can keep production going after they run out of the old cannondale components.

Coming from racing husqvarna's in the past, i am real ancious to get to look at one of these, just hope a few dealers take them on.

I have the KTM powered outlaw now, love the thing, but to me that sweeden engine coming on the highland will be far superior to that of the KTM.

I dont think sweeden sold out there entire knowledge of engine building to Ktm when husaberg was taken over by them.

I would not mind to see another "berg" atv out again either.

From what i have heard, husqvarna is not out of the picture either.
