piston rod question [Archive]

I am rebuilding my 300ex and was just wondering what it means if the rod has a little side to side play in it where it connects to the crankshaft? Is this a problem? Is the main bearing gone or is it ok to have slight side to side movement?

Can someone please help....I just need to know if my crank is shot, or if this is normal. Please help!

side to side play is normal .....if there is up and down play you have a problem.
