I need back brakes for my 400ex, I'm pretty sure i just need pads. but i need to know where i should get them, and a good tutorial on how to do everything, a video or pictures would be amazing. thanks.

its simple. get the pads at any online or atv store. then, un mount your caliper with the 2 12mm bolts that hold it on to the back plate. then slide off the caliper. take the 2 10mm bolts of the other side of the caliper, and slide them out. then the pads come out and reverse the process with installing new pads

thanks alot, this helped more than i thought... but i have no pressure on my back brake at all? i bought it and it was like that... do you think its just the no pad part?

well it depends. it could have a frozen piston like mine does. that you need to either get a caliper rebuild kit or replace all together. because even with pads worn down to the metal you should have 'pressure' on the disc... ir it might just bee theres air in your system and the brake line needs to be bleeded

well if u got the old ones out... you need ta puch up upon installing the pads cuz theres a little spring loaded device that keeps pressure on them for a reason im not very sure of

could you like explain how to do this?

No. haha just kidding

well, once you get the two 10mm slide bolts out, the pads shoukd 'fall' out the bottom of the caliper. if they are held in by dirt, just grab em and pull em out. next look up in the caliper where you just removed the pads. there should be a rectangular thin pice of metal in there thats bent in the middle, that acts like a spring. when you go to put the new pads in the same way they came out, that puts pressure on the pads so u need to push them in in order for the slide bolts to fit through and hold them in.

after bolts are in re-install the caliper :)

Don't forget you need to use a c clamp to push the caliper back in so there's enough room for the pads to slide back over the rotor. Sounds dumb but I've forgot to do that. Also if it
doesn't push back in that's a big indicator of the caliper being frozen.

I finally got them on, it was frozen i think, but i had a guy come help me pry the piston closed... it didn't have rear brakes when i got it, and now i have new pads on, and we blead the brakes, but i still have no pressure? im going to be getting a parking break block off plate soon, i think thats what it is.... but what else could it be?

Caliper could be trash or the master cylinder could need a rebuild or good cleaning. It all comes apart

is all that hard to do? or expensive?

its not hard to do but if you dont have any atv expirience you might have a hard time. i got a PB block off and ever scince my brake stopped working. not sure why but i believe my piston is frozen. if you want good brakes you might be better off pitching the caliper and buying a new one.

well it must be your piston because everyone i have talked to has said to block it off, unless you use it frequently and its not messed up... but mine is so i might aswell
