The guy i bought my quad off of made a custom aluminum skid plate so it is for sure possible, I think he drilled and tapped into the frame to screw it in a couple places and other places theres a bracket that he used that fits around the frame perfectly without drilling into the frame too (like a metal hose clamp kinda), which is probably much safer. He also made a custom front and rear bumper but out of steel which is not really a good idea but i really like how it looks, on the front hes got some aluminum on the bumper too, real nice i could try to get some pics.

I would definantly start out with a peice of poster board or cardboard to get a rough cut out of the skid plate, also when you do it make sure you sand down the edges incase you touch it and cut yourself

I made a skid plate out of HDPE plastic and that thing is virtually indestructible. I bought the plastic from kmac plastic 3/16 inch thick. Real easy to do,i will try and post some pictures.

i made full skid plates for both a-arms and the body.....kinda hard to make one for the swing arm though. on the body i just used the bolt holes where the stock plastic skid plate mounted and used like a hose clamp type thing on the very front. it holds pretty good and never came loose yet
