IM TRYIN TO SELL MY BLASTER AND I DONT KNOW WHAT TO BUY, A RAPTOR OR A 400EX. ANY OPPINIONS? I DO ALOT OF TRAIL RIDING, AND DRAG RACE IN THE CORN FIELD :D WE SOMTIMES SET UP A BRACKET, THERES BLASTERS, 300EX'S, A BANSHEE, AND SOON COMING A 400EX FROM, SHOULD I GET A RAPTOR OR A 400? ALSO I KNOW WISECO MAKES A 440 KIT FOR ONLY LIKE $220 :huh DOES ANYBODY MAKE A BIG BORE KIT FOR RAPTOR AROUND THIS PROCE??? TH MAIN REASON IM THINKING OF A RAPTOR OVER THE 400 IS BECUASE OF REVERSE, I USE IT ALOT. PLUS I WANNA BE ABLE TO BEAT EVERYBODY IN MY TOWN :D WITHOUT TONS O MONEY. THANX

Well, for trails, I would go with the EX. It handles much better in the woods. The 400EX actually has reverse. Just jump on the quad, grab the grab bar and pull backwards to engage it. Even with a Raptor, that Banshee is still going to beat you. The Raptor may have more HP than the EX, but the EX is lighter, has better suspension, is cheaper and more reliable, and handles much better in the woods.

Go with the 400ex for thousands of reasons... heh

forget the 440 kit, get a pipe (and jetted right) for the raptor and you'll spank that shee. as far as cheap repair/maintain, get a 400ex. if you want ponies get a rappy, but not a 01. believe me i know. the raptor is an awesome trail quad. but you need to do a little w/ it to get it to handle better in the tight stuff. jmo which won't be to popular on this site.:macho

Your coming off a Blaster, how can you say you use reverse a lot. Trust me, its not THAT important.

Also, I would say get the 400ex. The reasons are basicly listed above. Also you can get used 400exs cheap, that money saved can be put toward turning it into a Raptor/Banshee killer.

Have you considered a kfx/v400? There suppose to be awsome too.

I would say a 400ex, better handling in the woods, and lighter, and I dont see how you need reverse, get some muscles and get pulling boy.... Waaapish! LOL j/k But You can beat hondas reliablity. I have never owned a raptor so I cant tell you how good their reliability, but I know when I rode one, it took me a bit to get used to cause it kept nose diving. Not a lot but compared to my 400ex, I didnt really like how it jumped. Either way you will like one of them better than your blaster.

sport trax 10, good point lol. but i ride my Rubicon in the woods alot and i use reverse, and ALOT of times i wish my blaster had reverse. Thanks guys i most likely wont be gettin major air, but maybe 10-20 ft thats it becuase there arent alot of jumps were i live, but i want to be able to hit some big ones if i ever find/ make any :D also, i would go with a shee but i want a thumper, and i want electric start (i know that sounds *****ish but if im spendin 6 grand on a quad i want what i want!!!) and the z/kfx, no. i hear alot about frames cracking etc. Besides, i dont like the whole kawasaki/suzuki going together thing :huh and i know people who have had not so good luck with the Z. so thats out.

i've owned both and I would say go with the HONDA. There are all kinds of mods to make the EX run strong but it will cost some $$$ to get one to out run raptors and banshees. My best advice would be buy a used 400ex for around 3500 and go to www.sparksracing.com They have mods that will make your 400 eat RAPTORS and SHEES. Also by the time u spend all the $$$ fixing the raptor you will wish u would have went with the HONDA. What little time I had mine I bent the tierod, bent the axle, and bent a back rim. That was only in a 3 month time frame and all I did was race MX. I have yet to have any problems out of my ex and its about 7 months old.

Deff. a 40Ex

A raptor is underpowered as they come. Just imagine if Honda made a 660.

It took Yamaha a 660 to beat a 400 in a drag. And the 400 still wins on he track.

A 400 has almost the same power as a Raptor and 260 less ccs.

If Honda made a 660 it would probably be just as detuned as a Raptor is.

Go for the Raptor! Both are great bikes...but there is no substitute for displacement (besides NOS)!
I've never had a broblem out of my 400 or my 660! When they are sitting in the shed and it's time to ride...I pick the Raptor every time. Whether we are going to the dunes or just cruising the trails.
If you've got the balls it will corner how ever you make it corner....don't worry about tipping over....it builds character!
Reverse isn't for sissy's it's for smart people!

I'd say, go for the ltz/kfx400. The chassie and suspension is very similar as the 400ex. It has a little more power then the ex so its kinda a mix breed with a 400ex and a raptor. You can get a ton of power out of the ltz/kfx400's.

If you want to have the king quad over there...... Go for the Cannondale :o .

GO with the RAptor. i owned a 400ex for a few years and WILL get bored on it and you WILL get pissed off every time STOCK Raptor make you look like a turtle. Yamaha fixed some of the early problems on the Raptor like the gears and weak axle. If speed is what your talking it takes a lot more to get the 400ex modded. You need pipe, air filter, jets, new cam, new piston, etc. just to get it competitive in a drag but the Raptor jsut jet it and pipe it and a filter. WIth those mods a Raptor will increase 10-12 HP and a 400ex only 2-3, it's true a Raptor comes detuned but it really wakes up with some mods. And as far as it being tippy and heavier, a good rider makes up for a lot and a wider axle helps, but that does cost. I liked my 400ex but i feel i outgrew it and it would one of the last hi-performance quads i would buy today. Going from a Blaster to a 400ex you will find the 400ex isn't that much faster than a modded Blaster, i went from a Blaster to the 400. Right now i am thinking about a new quad and Honda has nothing for me and i am SICK AND TIRED OF WAITING FOR THEM as every other company is making kick *** performance machines.

DO NOT GET A RAPTOR!!!

if you do, as soon as u get it.... call in a new clutch

a Raptors clutch gets burned out pretty fast, and plus all Yamahas are high maintenance

get a 400ex. With 800 bucks of mods u can smoke raptors. 800 sounds like alot but u can probaly get 400's for 4800 brand new right now. So 4800+800=800 bucks cheaper than a craptor. I've owned both and me and my bro have dragged them a 1000 times. If i had a piston and cam i'd leave the craptor in the dust. I don't even want to talk about how much better the EX is for trails and MX. In my opinion u would be happier with the EX!!

Honda clutches are known to be pretty weak also, even weaker than the Raptors, and not all Yamaha's are high maintenance, I have yet to see an unreliable Yamaha, heck my two old Yamaha's were more reliable than my Honda is.

how do u raptor owners feel having 660cc but yet a 432cc cannondale can eat u alive?????????? When I had a raptor I thought it was untouchable but after watching what a cannondale can do I know now that YAMAHA should have made it have lots more power. They need to redesign the frame and stick a YZF motor in da MOFO
