I just got a honda 400ex bored 16 over with a fmf exhaust. i have a couple of questions. first is it bad for the motor if you dont use the clutch when you shift when your in the high rpms? second what weight oil would be the best for my motor? third what brand oil should i use?

i dont recommend power shifting but some do it. I like to use 10w40 in mine that is regular motor oil but it depends on the temps you are riding in. ranging from 5w30 to 20w50 for different things. Most oils are good, honda stuff, rotella, amsoil. they are all pretty good. Steve

I only use my clutch when I’m on the line, other than that I power shift it baby!!!
I run a fully built 416 and I’m still on the same stock clutch that came with the bike 4 years ago.

I say if it feels good do it!

thanks guys so when would you use a 5w-30 when it is really hot or what? also i tried to power shift yesterday at low rpms it was really rough then when i was at max rpm or the right rpm i power shifted it and it slipped right in. i have another question too guys today i fired it up and i gave it full throttle and it died? any reasons why? also it was delayed response. thanks for the help guys.

cold is 5w30 and 20w50 is for like 110. does the machine have anything done to it? it may not be jetted correctly. steve

the only way to find out is to take your carb apart and see what size main and pilot are in it. lol. steve

i would say to soak it in gas while scrubing it. I am not really sure what jets to be using but i would say that you should be around a 168 main keihin style jet. I would say from your description that you may be a bit on the rich side. steve
