I am thinking about dropping down to a 13 tooth front sprocket for the dunes. That would put me at 13/39 and should help get my butt moving in the sand better. I do alright now but I do get buried on some of the steeper hills if I don't have enough run up. I want to try a new paddle but can't afford a new set right now. Once I get my 426 kit done I think I'll splurge on some Skat~Traks to really lay down the power. Anyways, I was just wondering if I would need a new chain to compensate for the smaller sprocket. Seems like I wouldn't but I just want to make sure.

no but you will have to tighten it.. however when replacing a sprocket or chain you should always replace all 3 at once. they act as a unit.

I got a new chain and sprockets not too long ago, I just want a smaller one for the dunes.

YOU SHOULD BE ALRIGHT BY JUST TIGHTENING THE CHAIN. THE
4 SNOW TIRES DO VERY WELL IN THE SAND PLUS THE FASTER YOU GO THE MORE THEY SWELL UP AND IT GIVES YOU A LITTLE MORE TOP END

Are you running a 14 front right now? With the 426 a 14/39 would be a good ratio. But sense your still stock bore try the 13, front sprockets dont cost much so it wont hurt to play with until you find what you like.

Yeah, I'm running 14/39 with the mods in my signature. It works great for trails and stuff but like I said I could use some extra low end when I'm in the sand. Going to be putting on a 450r carb and ESR Airbox Eliminator Kit this weekend, though. But I was thinking the same thing, a front sprocket is like $10 bucks so I figured I'd throw a 13t on for dune trips for the added torque until I get the 426 kit.

Well the same chain works for the 13 and 14 and it only takes a couple minutes to change the front so you could just swap for sand and trails really easy.

Yeah, that's what I was planning on.

For paddles I use 12/39, but I use it for dirt drag, if you have a problem pullin 5th gear with the 13t, which I dont think you will, then get the 12t.

13/39 is probally your best bet for regular riding.
