will they hold up the same as alum wheels or better?

yes they should hold up, check out the HiPer Racing Wheels FAQ page on their website. Let me know if you need a link to it. The only issue that I have had with mine is losing air over the course of a few days. Although I have never had a flat tire in two season of racing motocross with mine.
