View Full Version : Heat treat and cryo treat transmission

i building a 350r stroker with an over ride transmission 2-5 and i was told when u do this u loose a gear so i will have no 6th and i know yukon gear that r already heat treated sells 2-6 gears i was also told when u run new gears with old gears it causes problems would i b better off just using an old trans and having it heat treated and cyro so what im asking is which way should i go some answers with reasoning would b great and my engine case is an 88 what other gears could i use would the 86 atc trans b better

i had a kx125 that needed 3rd gear (was not real bad) i got a new one put it in never had a prob... bike ran great.

a 1/4 maybe a better choice for you much more consitant 6th gear depends on whos cutting it 2/5 aernt common at all i sugest calling dave moore racing

i've had really goed luck with cryo treated trannies in the past. :cool:

i would just get the yukons and be done with it...

well i have no problem buying the Yukon gears but those r only on the drivin side of the transmission not the drive side im concerned about all the instant torque that the 350 non pv produces when hitting the power band and causing the 23 year old gears to break if i could get a good reference on who could heat treat the gears every 1 i have called said they need to know what kind of material that they r made out of so they could do the best possible job and id rather sink allot of money into the trans now rather then tearing it apart to repair cases and gears down the road

ive heard that the gears r already hard and they dont crack they just break there is no inbetween but i wasnt sure if i im gathering so much info i just dont know which way to go ive had the gears in my toyota cryoed and they hold up great running 42 inch tires
