Ok, so I rode Saturday at Sand Hill and it didn't take long to realize that to really enjoy the 400 in the sand I NEED paddle tires!!

So, what I need is input as to which paddle tires to buy. Brand, size, style, etc.

Should I buy a pair of stock rear wheels or go with something aftermarket to mount them on? (I want an extra set of wheels to slap on when riding in the sand). If aftermarket, size, offset, etc.

Some of you guys that hit the sand dunes pitch in here, please!

Thanks

What type of riding are you looking to do in the sand? Trail or hill climb? If you mainly want to hill climb, you can't get any better than Skat~Trak Haulers (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&navType=type&webTypeId=138&prodFamilyId=6053&listingId=&custPropAttr4=39&sizeAttr=1668). If you want something good for trails, go with a v-shaped blade. The ITP Sand Stars (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&webTypeId=138&navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&prodFamilyId=5363) are pretty good. In either case, you're going to want a 7 or 8 bladed tire. As for wheels, just go with a set of Douglas .125s (http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&webTypeId=237&navTitle=Tires+and+Wheels&webCatId=8&prodFamilyId=8666).

i would suggest getting a set of sand star rears or maxxis razr blades for a molded paddle. if you plan on riding a lot of sand i would just invest in some Skat trak Haulers they are more expensive but an awesome tire. A stock 400 like a 6 paddle, built could get away with a 8 paddle hauler. I run a 7 paddle Hauler and love them.

Also you can choose between a straight paddle or V-paddle i have run both and prefer that straight line and hill climbing of the straight paddle. Both will do the trick tho.

For wheels its whatever you prefer really.

i have a set of sand gecko 21x11x8 that you could have for 70 bucks shipped.

Should I go with stock wheel/tire sizing?

I run 8 paddle Extreme Haulers and love em', wouldn't recommend them for anything less than a well built 440 though.

Edit: They are 20x10x10 on ITP wheels.

I got skat trak hauler's and they work awesome, but for the money I think I could of got something cheaper and had the same result's.

You will need atleast 14/39 gears to push paddle's, without it there will barley be a 4th or 5th gear, I use 12/39 but only use them for dirt drag.

So, a set of 20x10x8, 7 paddle skat traks would be a good choice of rears for the 400?

What about the fronts?

I wouldn't worry too much about front sand tires, just run your normal ones.
