basically, the 400 is like the 300, but with mroe power, and no reverse...i am sure the frame/suspension/and other things are different, but basically the 300 has electric start w/reverse, the 400 electric start w/o reverse....i have only ridden a 300, it was pretty cool, even tho it was really beat up...i personally have my eye set on a 400, cuz i rarely would need reverse, and i want the power:rolleyes: :D

i have both 300ex and 440ex, both are great bikes, really depends on the type of riding you do, for the tight and narrow trails the 300 is hard too beat, track and wider trails the 400, can't go wrong with either one

same here, if i were to pick I'd take the 400 cause it has much better suspension, more power, and its much easier to get parts for and the parts are much cheaper

well, i still have my 300ex, which i want to sell, its a great trail bike if you just trail ride, but if you get fast your going to wish you had the power and suspension of the 400ex. I just bought my 400ex and can tell they are designed alot better, the frame is better and all along with the engine also. The 400ex's parts tend to cost alot less when you buy them from a good honda parts dealer. I love my 400ex and plan to do a whole lot of cross country races with it. And nowa days you can get a good used 400ex for about $3000- 3500.

Like they said, it all depends on what you are planning on doing with it. If you are just a rider the 300 will work best for you because of its narrower stance and reverse. It had good suspension for getting modest air. If you want to race then youll want a 400 all the way. Great top speed and acceleration, I dont care what dirtwheels shootout says. The suspension on the 400 is about the best stock out there. I have owned both and the day I rode my friends 400 for the first time about two weeks later I was at the dealer trading in my 300.

They have pretty much covered everything! 400ex has great steering, both of them are light, 300ex has reverse....and everything that was previously said!:D

well the city i live in there are not legal. so when ppl do ride they have to go find open fields and trails further out in the country or on a friends property! so i would be riding in trails but not narrow ones. and i would also be racing them with friends just messin around but nothing like the professional races!! thanks for all the info! i prefer to get a used older model. like 1988 to 1999 and am not looking to pay more than 2500. so i dont think i would be able to go to the dealers lot!! lol
i have tried & tried for weeks to try and reserach the older 400 model but all i can find is for the 2000 and newer models! :(
any sites that might have this information? thanks!

I've owned bolth , I find the 400 to be a much more solid , smoother, more powerful quad, well worth the extra money.

If your not wanting to go over $2500 then most likely your going to have to get a 300, they can be picked up around $2000 used.
As for you only finding year 2000 400s thats because they were first made in 1999 I believe so you wont be finding one any older than that.

Definately go with the 400. I can't recall how many posts I've seen where other people say now they wish they had got the 400.

Out of the two, definatly get the 400ex. But if you have to get the 300ex because of money, im sure you will be happy with it.

the 400ex is better than the 300ex in every way possible. even modded. the 400 has much more room for improvement thatn the 300 does. you can make a 300 fast but you can always make a 400 faster. the only thing the 300 has over the 400 is reverse (which sucks anyways on the 300) and a lower price.

400ex all the way. Some of my friends had 300ex's and they sold them immediately when me and my other friend got 400's. No matter what, go with a 400, you will NOT regret it. If u have a 300 and u ride with other 400's and stuff, even with a modded out 300, you still cant even keep up with a stock 400. So do urself a favor and buy a 400ex.

sorry but if you modify a 300ex with a 330 kit and alot of goodies it will kill a 400ex

Better be running 12/1 compression on racing gas with a racing cam. Also racing carb, full exhaust system, etc to be able to out run a 400ex.

It might with a race setup against a stock 400, but then once u do that then u have nothin else to look forward to. If u get a 400, ur happy with that power for a while but then u can always up its horsepower. Look at it this way, do u want a honda civic or a mustang cobra. Ur call. I rode with a kid that had an 11:1 330 ex a couple of weeks ago and he couldnt keep up with me and my other friend. U can read the 400 mods I have in my signature.

Go to www.cycletrader.com you can usually find some good deals around where you live. Go with the 400.. Screw reverse. The first time I rode a 300 I was like damn thats got decent power. But you can learn to handle all the power in like a day... All quads feel faster once you ride them first, but once you get comfortable then it doesn't seem so fast. (so what im sayin go with the 400:D )
