2010 GNCC Series - Round#2 - The General - ATV Live Race Coverage

The season sure gets off to a fast start here in the GNCC series. With back to back rounds, it is sometimes hard to keep up with all the action! From the stories I listened to, quite a few racers hit Daytona for Bike week and some much needed rest. Bruises need to heal, hands need to toughen up and for many, quads needed some repair

Bill and BJ Ballance hang out as friday afternoon started to warm up.

Now I wasnt to tired, my winter legs feel pretty good but I decided I would let my youngest son Ryan pull the camera duty as we walked around shooting the breeze. He was under orders to work if he wanted supper:devil: :blah:

Hey, its a good oppertunity for him to work on his camera skills and it gives me a chance to see things from his perspective. he did tell me he should have hit Daytona for some T&A shots from his heigth.....so now I have something else to look forward to next season:devil:

The vendors were getting set up as the racers began filling in the pit areas

He needs to work on his shyness if he expects to get some frame filling bikini clad shots, poor Angel Atwell looks a million miles away:p

It is always good to see folks relaxing and having a good time. Come race day, the stress level goes up and its all business

Han's with the hardware they took out of his leg. It needs an HMF logo and a new finish:D It did sport some wicked self-tapping screws!

Wow what a trip! I know i'm not alone stating that being back home is a relief:p

Thanks to Cody for doing the updates and coverage, and thanks for not burning down the house while me and yo momma was gone:D

The racing was pretty solid in Georgia, nice tight track, great close racing action! Look for a report on the event on the homepage shortly.

It was also great seeing everyone and chatting, wish there was always more time for that! Looking forward to Big Buck and Steele Creek as they are laid back venues so please stop by or grab me by the arm and say hey!

The racing was pretty solid in Georgia, nice tight track, great close racing action! Look for a report on the event on the homepage shortly.

For a man that has been GNCC racing for as long as he has one would think that he would take his emotions somewhere other that in fron of a lot of children and spectators. Obviously to Micheal Benson there is such a thing. He must think he is some kind of Hawk, Ballance, or Penland and people get out of his way. Even those in his class.

Mickey Dunlap owner of Four Stroke Tech, I have sponsored Mike Benson for so many years now I couldn't even count them. I have known him before Four Stroke Tech was even in business over 22 years ago now. Mike told me yesterday about this and he feels bad about how he handled this. I have never seen him do anything like this before so it's not something that he has a rep. for. I have seen this kind of stuff happen in racing before as well as everyone of you have.Heck just look at Nascar racing every week,or SuperCross. Each driver or rider has his side of the story of what happen on the track and some where in the middle there
is the truth. I don't know what happen because I wasn't there on the track and either was any of you. I do know Mike was ahead and he got taken out. If the rider behind can't control his quad maybe he shouldn't be racing. I do know from other riders that Dudding has a rep. for taking people out,but that's just here say. Bottom line is Mike's a good guy that acted bad this time,he's not going to lose his ride but he has been warned.If any of you think my warnings don't mean much,ask some of my old riders!I don't take things like this lightly so don't think I'm being slack with him.

Well since yesterday I started getting calls from riders saying he has did this to them too.There are a lot of riders that think they can do it and just call it racing,Dudding knew he did something wrong this time and I think he will think twice about doing it again.If Benson had been holding him back like some riders do in the tight stuff,then a bump might be in order. This was more then a bump,but I welcome Dudding to come on and give his side so I don't put words in his mouth.

I have even more respect for you now than I did before. I understand that emotions flair in racing. I have raced GNCC's for a while myself. I just simply thought that they could have gone SOMEWHERE else other than there where all the fans were standing trying to get a glimpse at their favorite riders. I love GNCC very much and hated to see the lady standing next to me tell her son that they were leaving and will never be back to another race. I fully trust that you have resolved this issue and I have nothing else to comment about the situation. Thank you for being a stand up man for everyone here.

I don't think there is any good place for it to happen,but at least it wasn't in front of the TV crews like we seen with nascar last weekend. You seen what happens when someone gets bumped at 180mph plus. I don't like to see things like this happen,and even more so with 600lbs plus quads. Mike is black and blue from head to toe,and at 47 he's going to feel it for a few weeks.

Your calling out Dudding for not being able to control a quad. I am sorry but in all my years racing I do not believe Dudding cannot control his Renegade. If something happened and Dudding could not control his quad and hit him. I could see Benson being pissed, but his actions after the race in front of specators was terrible. I am sorry but Dudding showed the more responsible, respectable type of guy that you would want on your team. What ever happened to your team with Mickey?:eek2: I dont think calling people out is necessary. I think we were all just asking what should be done about the actions Mr. Benson expressed at the race? Yes it is heated battles, but we do not want to compare ourselves with Nascar, Supercross, or any other type of racing and say altercations happen. It is very very hard to find good riders that really work for what they get as far as a sponsorship.Last year I gave Kevin Johnston another chance to be Mikes team mate,he never put my products on his quad and I'm not sure if he even raced more then two times all year in the U2 class.I asked him for my stuff back because he never used it. He never would return my calls and by Jan. of this year he sold the brand new parts on Kawieriders.com. That's the kind of thing that I got sick of with riders getting over$10.000 in product and win money,only to turn around and dump on FST and our other sponsors. For those that try to get good sponsorship it is even harder for you now because of people that don't understand how to work for thier rides and to keep the sponsors happy. I better stop with my rant right now,talking about this stuff gets my blood pressure up:mad: lol

I'm happy with what I doing in my business right now and I don't see a full GNCC race team any time soon.

I have some very cool projects coming out in the mags this year and maybe setting a few land speed records my self.

Hey Todd, I think I started riding for Mickey in 2001. I remember the good ol days from the big 628cc Polaris thumper then to the 300ex days (which was an awesome 2 years with a championship) then to the 450r and now my ltz463. I would love to come back, but its a little tougher now with money and things that are going on with my life right now. The 6 races in a side X side sounds good to me if you let me drive!!! :macho Im gonna try to run a few this year, maybe Ohio & Indiana.

I appreciate everyone’s point of view. There is zero doubt our class is competitive, and if you aren't pushing for 2 hours you wont be able to run towards the front. Quite honestly at the beginning of the 2009 season it was overwhelming for me in the first few races how aggressive the riding was in the U2 class vs the 4x4 lites class I had ridden in prior. I don't mean dangerous or mean spirited just aggressive.

I am sure there are times over the years that I could have waited a second or two longer for a lapper to slide over, but I do feel like I do my best to give people plenty of warning. However, I don't feel like I HAVE EVER put someone in danger. I take exception to being called a "dirty rider", that’s a harsh statement, but everyone is definitely entitled to their opinion.

To address this past weekends "incident" with Mike Benson, I would like to start by saying I have a huge amount of respect for Mike. He is an unbelievably talented rider and is clearly one of the fasted guys in the A.M. race as his record shows. There really isn't much of a story as far as the track side of things go. It was simple we had a couple miles to the finish and were riding hard. We passed each other back and fourth 2 times I believe within a mile mostly because of lappers. Somewhere around the mile to go marker there were some guys stuck in a ditch. Because of this several lines had developed throughout the race. I was on the inside line and Mike was on the outside. I knew Mike was coming hard but I felt like I had a nose on him so I never lifted. I understand through reading other posts mike felt like I broadsided him but I can say with a 100% clear conscious I never at anytime saw his quad to Broadside him, and we weren’t in a turn as some have said. The track was simply a reverse "Y" as the two different lines came together. All we did was slam front wheels together and whether it was the weight of my quad or my momentum my quad held its line and never budged. As a matter of fact I never let of the gas, but make no mistake in my account we did hit hard, but I believe it was do to both of our riding styles neither wanted to back down. I had no idea that Mike even wrecked I just thought he lost his line and got pushed off the track and had to find a different line. Like I said we were extremely close to the end of the race. In all incidents there are two sides to the story and by no means am I saying mine is more correct than Mikes. Everyone interprets things and situations through their own eyes. This is simply my account. I do want to make 100 PERCENT CLEAR, that at no time during those last few miles in GA I had any intentions of anything going wrong for either of us. I was having a blast and was loving the competitive nature of our riding.
